Of winnable candidates, winnable seats and...

Take on all probabilities and see what are the options and remedial measures! Don't wait for the time comes as when it comes and if it comes, Malaysia will be plunging into another constitutional crisis

Well... Since everyone is gearing up to GE 13, let's revisit 1MPM6 Najib 's pledge to choose 'winnable' candidate. Honestly, this is easier said than done especially when it involves BN.

1MPM6 Najib surely is facing an uphill task in choosing a "winnable" candidate. Not only that, it is doubtful if Najib can secure enough "winnable" candidates for BN to cruise through GE 13! How many can Najib secure "winnable" candidates from the likes of MCA, MIC, Gerakan, and PPP? In fact, how many can Najib's UMNO pledge to BN for "winnable" candidates? Surely, Najib can't be banking on appointed UMNO senators to beef up his cabinet, can he?

Back to "winnable" candidates - 1MPM6 Najib has his work cut out when Shahidan Kassim staked a claim that he is THE "winnable" candidate. That said, can Najib afford to drop Shahidan in GE 13? If Shaidan claims that he is THE "winnable" candidate, then what about Ghaffur, Bung and Aziz, UMNO's threesome in parliament? Will they be categorised as "winnable" candidates too?

Najib vaguely define "winnable candidates as :-
  1. Someone who can win regardless of age;
  2. It does not matter how many terms he/she has served (meaning that the post is his/hers till death?);

1MPM6 Najib failed to address those with tainted records such as :-
  1. Corruption or perceived to be corrupt (eg PKFZ, NFC);
  2. Abuse of power/position (eg AP, zakat (tithe) fund, Maika);
  3. Sexual misbehaviours (eg Batu Pahat, KL Hilton/Le Meridien);
Will 1MPM6 Najib accept those with tainted records if they are deemed to be "winnable"? Or do Najib considered himself "tainted" but "winnable"? Or is Najib's silence on candidates moral characters underlines his own weakness?

Since we are talking "winnable", why not expand it further to include "winnable" seats? Since 1MPM6 Najib does not cover this, let us start with the definition of "winnable" BN seats. "Winnable" seats are those seats considered to be BN's vault. No matter who BN put up as candidate, then the person will win hands down, regardless of his/her age, education level, social skills, moral characters etc.

For many years, most seats in Johor, Pahang, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak are considered "winnable" seats. Looking at how Bung Moktar degrades women with his often sexist remarks, one wonders why he is still BN's elected parliamentarian. Remember Mohd Said of Jasin Melaka? He is the one who poke fun at women with his "leaky" remarks.

Why didn't 1MPM6 Najib announce about "winnable" seats? Did he know something that we don't? Is he getting the feedback that there is no longer such thing as "winnable" seats? Or is "winnable" seats limited to Pekan and Pagoh only? The rest are no longer in BN's poll vault?

Apart from "winnable" candidates and "winnable" seats, there is another that 1MPM6 Najib purposely avoids mentioning. Like it or not, there is also what is termed as "winnable" loyalty. How do you define "winnable" loyalty? This is the tricky part. The simple definition of "winnable" loyalty is the "independent" deciding factor that can make or break you.

Remember Idris Jusoh of Terengganu? Although Idris leads Terengganu BN to another resounding victory in GE 12, Idris runs foul of "winnable" loyalty. After 14 days on uncertainties, Idris was stripped from his MB's post and the vacant post filled by Ahmad Said. Idris did what he thought as the right thing requesting the "winnable" loyalty to endorsed and later consented to his appointment as MB. That is not to be and along the way it is said that the "winnable" loyalty's actions is another slap in the face to the then PM Abdullah Badawi.

Remember Perak? PR lost the state when 1MPM6 Najib enticed 3 PR lawmakers to crossover, leading to a constitutional crisis in Perak. The "winnable" loyalty consented Zambry to take over the MB's post. Here, not only PR lost the MB's post but more so, PR lost the state with outside interference and manouvering of 1MPM6 Najib, then DPM Najib!

If Terengganu talks about "winnable" loyalty non-consent, Perak witness "winnable" loyalty's succumb to slick manouvering by BN, there is another type of "winnable" loyalty in the likes of Pahang. In Pahang's case, the "winnable" loyalty's actions revealed that he is more BN than BN's founding fathers.

What will happen if the "winnable" loyalty refuse to consent the party or coalition of parties with the majority seats? Can the "winnable" loyalty appoints one whom he likes? Can he appoints someone from the minority group to head the state? Can he make political statements to favour a political party?

"Winnable" candidate, "winnable" seats, "winnable "loyalty - these are some of the factors that 1MPM6 Najib is looking into and something PR has to be aware of. Winning GE 13 may be easier to PR now with the present sentiment. But whether PR can take over Putrajaya hinges on whether the "winnable" loyalty will endorse PR's man to helm Putrajaya. The same goes to the states with suspected "winnable" loyalty stand. And since we are talking about "winnable" loyalty, what about those states where federal-appointed governors are the heads of states? Will these Governors act the way Penang Governor acts or will they be involved in their own CM's oath taking ceremony. This is something the constitutional experts have to discuss. Take on all probabilities and see what are the options and remedial measures! Don't wait for the time comes as when it comes and if it comes, Malaysia will be plunging into another constitutional crisis and then, maybe...we will have another "winnable" category - that of "winnable judiciary". God forbids it from happening...

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Of M N27 and C N28 : BN wins... so what?

Congratulations to BN for retaining both seats!
  1. All major MSM splash on BN's double win in both Kerdau and Merlimau. Congratulations to BN for retaining both seats!
  2. Now that we have gone over the feel good factor for BN, let's look at the figures :-

    BN wins Kerdau by securing 5,060 whilst PAS manage to get 2,336 with majority of 2,724 in 83 % voter turn-out by-election.

    BN similarly wins Merlimau by obtaining 5,962 with PAS collecting 2,319 and the majority is 3,643 with voter turnout recorded as 79%.
  3. OK, let's assume that all the 5 % increase in voter turnout is all out for BN and some of the former PAS voters voted BN this time to "avoid" detection, BN should be getting 4,809 in Kerdau and 6,022 in Merlimau.That's not the case here. Why? The strong BN showing in Kerdau is attributed to 2 factors :-

    • The "Najib" factor because Kerdau voters has to prop up Najib as he is from Pahang;
    • Kerdau FELDA settlers are looking for their "payday" when BN promise them financial windfall after the by-election win;

    Now that BN wins big, let's see how BN developes Kerdau and Merlimau. In reality, support for PR is still there, maintain within the 2008 limits. The only thing for PR to do now is to "woo" the fence sitters in the coming GE 13. Not impossible when the battlefronts are all over Malaysia and Santa Muhyiddin and 1MPM6 unable to cover all places at one time...
  4. I will let the rest of numerical "experts" to digest their figures. This posting is originally thought out to outline where PR goes wrong and I will stick to that for now.
  5. PR lost "big" in both Kerdau and Merlimau due to various factors. These factors may be minors but combined is a recipe for failure. What are they?

    • Media coverage and caricature blitz;

      This is expected but nevertheless it is a major contributing factor to both areas. Although Merlimau is more urban compared to Kerdau, the voters primary's source of information is from the MSM and national TV. Bombardments of BN virtues and development promises wins most of the fence sitters.

    • Instant projects;

      It goes without saying of these numerous instant projects. The less said the better as this is BN's SOPSOP dishing out instans projects to curry the voters.

    • 1M dinners and lucky draws

      Say what you want but this is actually winning votes as a full stomach makes one happy regardless of the fact that this is on "promotional" period only. By claiming that 1M NGO is apolitical, it has manage to rope in unsuspected and wanting voters into their trap. How can it be apolitical when the same 1M dinner "volunteers" took the trouble to burst the balloons handed by DAP supporters across the fence? DAP workers did not encroach 1M dinner. The same when 1M organiser invited BN politicians to their events. If they are apolitical, why invite Ali Rustam? If the rply is Ali Rustam is the CM of Malacca, why were the same not extended to Nik Aziz in Galas? Isn't Nik Aziz the MB of Kelantan?

    • Sex, sex and more sex...

      BN is actually desperate. To break and to neutralise Anwar's "bigger than life" persona, BN is willing to bring out Ummi Hafilda and a string of other B-rated actors to continue painting lurid picture of Anwar. Forget about the truth, as long as it sells to the rural voters, go ahead. Forget about being religious, it is not in BN's book of ethics.

    • Buy outs and shutting up

      Remember Ketua Wanita Jasin? Remember how she complained about potential candidates being sidelined and the movement's decision to "boycott" the by-election? That fizzled out when Ali Rustam has a "one on one" talk with the Ketua Wanita. How did Ali Rustam buy her support? Make your guess - it is either financial or project form.

      Remember about another blogger from Pahang? His "mysterious" disappearance from PAS's operation centre is something to look for. PAS has been naived for too long and their naievity leads to the "other" side getting all the "strategic" blueprint". Shutting out that blogger may not be much but there is an effect...

    • Technology co-ordination

      The historic 308 shows what technology can do. Working from limited budget, alternative media and free bloggers are unable to compete with BN's state of teh art technology and the broadband coverage is found wanting in these areas, leaving PR friendly alternative media stranded.

      It did not help when PR staffers are not being helpful to these small alternative media. They have their reasons too - being overly cautious with possible saboteurs

    • Intimidation (straight or implied)

      Honestly I am disgusted with the way these orange-coloured "rempit" brigade rule the streets during the by-election. Their noisy machines and numbers are physical intimidation. It becomes worse when the authorities present do not make serious attempts to control the brigade. This is KJ's "secret army" and like cowboys on bikes, they coralled the voters to vote for their political masters.

      What about the "You don't help me, I don't help you"? Is this not another form of intimidation. Straight, simple and still BN can get away with it.

  6. More? Of course there are more. It is time for PR to think seriously about their future. Are they moving as one or are they going solo? There have been too many spokespersons and they are contradicting each ther. PR has been talking about formalising their political pact. That was a year ago. That was when Zahid Ibrahim is still in PKR. When are they going to form that pact? Mind you, the GE is coming soon and PR is still in disarray.
  7. PR should also start organising their supporters and provide specific tasks based on their speciality. Points must be argued on some intellectual level... and must be back up with some facts, not hearsays.
  8. I will write more when I have settle down... for now, I see PR is a mess especially in Sarawak. You want to win? Clean up your act. No need to issue ultimatum and fan the infighting.
  9. One free tip - if PR wants to go far, Anwar Ibrahim has to make the ultimate sacrifice. If he is truly innocent from the accussations that he is facing now - then by all means lead PR (if it is accepted by the majority). If not, then Anwar can gracefully withdraw from the limelight as he is becoming a liability especially in the rural areas.
  10. Me? I will continue my ways. I have been doing that for the past GEs, so why stop now?

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Of insolence: Khalid's style...

For Khalid, Sorry seems to be the hardest words...

  1. Insolence! That's the fitting word for Khalid Ibrahim if what Malay Mail reported is true. How can Khalid react in such a manner? Tsk tsk sometimes they never learn, do they?
  2. In this latest twist regarding PR's royal snub towards the Queen, Khalid Ibrahim, the current MB of Selangor and former Guthrie CEO came up with more ridiculous arguments :-

    • Khalid allege that the Queen came on her personal capacity.

      Hello! Wasn't it reported that the event promoter extended an invitation letter to Istana Negara? Wasn't it recorded that the event promoter briefed the organising committee of the Queen's concent to grace the event? Wasn't it reported that the protocol officer from Istana Negara attended a meeting with the organising committee?

      Does that sound like personal capacity to you?

    • Khalid claimed that the "issue was understood by all parties concerned and considered settled and closed"

      Another attempt to spin stories? Who understood the issue? The EXCO? Of course they understood the issue because most of them are absent from the event. How did Khalid arrived to his conclusion that the issue is considered closed and settled? Has Khalid Ibrahim had an audience with the Queen? If Khalid has not, then surely Khalid is only presenting his side of the story.

      Is that acceptable to the rest of us?

    • Khalid continued to ramble that "It's like the Queen was invited to someone's house in Selangor"

      Childish reasoning! This is the state's event and when the Queen comes calling, Khalid and his hordes of EXCOs should be there as hosts . Simple as that. Following Khalid's reasoning, it's like the Queen visited a house in Selangor on invitation and find the occupants not around. Is that proper of the occupants to be away when they know fairly well that the Queen is coming?

      Do you do that to your guest? Maybe you don't but Khalid did. He and his hordes of EXCOs!

    • Khalid also denied the Selangor Sultan was unaware of the invitation to the Queen.

      Mind-bongling! Khalid goes the extra mile to drag HRH Sultan into his problems. Khalid, do you know what you are talking about? First, reports said HRH Sultan was not informed, now Khalid claimed that HRH was aware of the invitation to the Queen? Is Khalid implying something here?

      Khalid, you are already in quicksand, don't make it worse!

  3. Before it has been suggested that PR needs to learn a thing or two about protocol. Now it is crystal clear that PR know nuts about protocol. They have to start from zero.
  4. PR should understand that they are riding high because the rakyat are with them. Going against the set protocol is pure insolence Does Khalid think he can survive the next three years without the tacit support of HRH Sultan? Does Khalid think that he can just set the Queen aside?
  5. If that is what Khalid is thinking and if that line of thought is in line with those of Anwar, Lim KS and Hadi Awang, then it seems that PR's disrespect against the Royal house is similar to BN. So, are they both pushing for republic of Malaysia?
  6. It is time for the rakyat to evaluate Khalid Ibrahim and his band of EXCOs'. Just because he represents PR in Selangor does not convert him into an angel. Just by becoming an elected representative from PR does not means that one is mistake-free.
  7. Khalid Ibrahim needs to take a hard look on how he handle the sand issue, how he pooh-poohed the water crisis issue, how his EXCO is tangled with letters of support issue. Being smart does not equally means a good leader.
  8. What is wrong for Khalid to apologise to both the Queen and HRH Sultan Selangor? Or is Khalid too egoistic to apologise?

    Does a tiger lose its stripes? Apakah hilang bisa ular kalau menyusur dibawah akar? It will boost Khalid's image if he apologise but if he stays true to his decision that everything is resolved, then Khalid is burning his own clothes. As simple as that!

    For Khalid, Sorry seems to be the hardest words...

  9. Put it this way. The Queen may not mind the way Khalid treat her but others do mind. If Khalid is still sticking to his decision that no apology is necessary, then clearly Khalid is rubbing salt to the wounds. Is that what Khalid wants? Is that what the PR leadership wants?
  10. PR may be the talk of the town and the future but with this arrogance and insolence, PR will lose support soon. Especially from the Royalist urban and rural Malays followed by Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli and the rest.
  11. If that is what PR wants, so be it. All due to Khalid's insolence! All due to Khalid's reluctance to apologise.
  12. Now, if HRH Sultans acts tough and seems to side BN, don't blame them but thank Khalid Ibrahim for his actions... maybe the tide is turning against PR. Don't say that PR is not forewarned...
Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Of shame and disgrace : BN and PR are alike...

  1. Shameful! TV3's Berita Utama carried the news of 20 illegal immigrants escaping from Immigration's holding depot in KLIA. Mind you that this is not the first time it happened, the first "Great Escape" happened on 27th March 2010 when 16 illegal immigrants cut through two security grilles to open two gates at the depot.
  2. Our Number two's response? Both he and Hishamuddin formed a committee to investigate the incident. As usual, both number two and Hishamuddin outlined the following actions and views :-

    • Suspend twenty immigration officers in charge of the detention centre;
    • "Harsh" actions to be taken including "change" of home ministry Secretary general and immigration director general (if it was due to "inside job" or work of "syndicate");
    • Officers failed to carry out their duties with high level of integrity and commitment;
    • Any weakness to be reported to Hishamuddin;
    • Viewed human trafficking seriously as this could be linked to drug trafficking and terrorism activities;

  3. Will that be another lip service from number two and Hishamuddin? Everytime someone breaks out from our detention centres, a committee is formed. Everytime there is project fiasco, a committee is formed.

    Committee, committee. When will the real action begins? It is embarrassing to hear time and time again of drug bust worth millions involving foreign nationals. What do we do about it? In one case, these foreign national smugglers can even afford to rent a RM 13000 house!

  4. Hishamuddin mentioned of possible "removal" of both the home ministry's secretary general and the immigration director general. Why not go for that extra one mile, Hishamuddin? Why not "remove" the home minister as well for a leader is the reflection of his followers aka officers!

    Why it happened in Malaysia? Is Malaysia perceived as a "semua boleh" country? Heck! Explain how these 20 illegal immigrants can make their way out of KLIA? If they are in KL now, why are they not detected?

  5. If Hishamuddin can mobilise FRU to manhandle those "No to ISA" activists, then why can't he place these burly FRUs' to man the immigration depot? Is Hishamuddin another "jaguh kampung" who crows hard only at his own kind?
  6. Should the immigration be the sole agency to take the blame? To be fair to them, number two and Hishamuddin should take into account the following :-

    • How many illegal immigrants were there in the holding depot? What is the capacity of the holding depot? Is it overcrowded?;
    • What is the average holding period for the immigrants? How long does it take to get the papers done? How long does it take to deport them?;
    • What is the officer:immigrant ratio? What about the officers working facility? Sufficient? Adequate?;
    • Are the officers well-equipped and well trained? What is their Standard Operating Procedure?;
    • Is the facility well-lighted? Are CCTVs' installed at strategic locations? Are the gates electrically operated or manually opened?;
    • Is the breakout a "salient" message to expedite the deportation process?;

  7. It is easy for Hishamuddin to pass the responsibility to his Secretary general and director general, but in reality, Hishamuddin is the one who should bear the responsibilities. Afterall, is he not the minister in charge?

    Anybody want to bet that both the secretary general and the director general will do a "Nik Ali" on Hishamuddin?

  8. Disgraceful! That may not be the best description but for now that word will do...

    It has been almost a month and Malay Mail broke the news yesterday on Khalid Ibrahim and gang's royal snub. Not just any royalty but Permaisuri Agung herself!

  9. It all began during the Selangor tourism-organised International Islamic Song Festival. The Queen had confirmed that she will attend the event in mid-June , almost 1 month before the festival.

    And yet, it is reported that :-

    • Khalid Ibrahim, Selangor's state executive councillors, elected representatives, senior civil servants failed to attend the function;
    • Selangor government failed to inform HRH Sultan Selangor of the Queen's attendance in Shah Alam;
    • the Federal government was left out of the invitation list;
    • Only 200 attended the function held in a 5000 capacity Melawati indoor stadium;

  10. The witchhunt has begun (again) in Selangor. Khalid, as number two and Hishamuddin, started an investigation on the issue.

    Amongst others, PR-led Selangor's immediate actions were :-

    • Khalid apologise to HRH Sultan Selangor;
    • Instructed Eli Wong to seek audience with the Queen and apologise for the "snub";
    • Issued show cause letter to Selangor Tourism and promoter O2TW for the fiasco;

  11. Are the actions taken by Khalid enough? Consider these :-

    • Who send the official invitation letter to Istana Negara? Is it Selangor tourism or is it the promoter O2TW?. If it is O2TW, do they copied the letter to Selangor state government?;
    • When the protocol officer from Istana Negara requested for a list of dignitaries who will accompany the Queen, why was it not provided?;
    • Did Selangor Tourism briefed both Eli Wong and Khalid on Istana Negara's request?;
    • Is this the PR's way in receiving the Queen (and for that matter the royalty)?

  12. Clearly Khalid Ibrahim and his whole gang of EXCOs' lineup need to learn a thing or two about protocol. Selangor, being one of the foremost state in Malaysia should set a good example.

    However, Khalid failed miserably in that. Frankly, Khalid with years of experience in corporate world should be well aware of protocol. IfKhalid could not handle this simple protocol issue, then it is time for him to be stripped of his Tan Sri-ship. Serious! There is no place in Tan Sri list for a person who could not observe protocol.

  13. Not only that, PR has failed in their first "get to know your Royalty" session! If PR could not handle the Queen, then how can PR handle the King (if and when they take over the Federal government)? Hypothetically speaking, what will happen if the King rejected PR to lead the government after GE 13 due to lack of protocol?

    This is a matter of misplaced priorities. Everybody expect the other to take the lead and in the end it became a headless and leaderless affair. Khalid Ibrahim should be there as he should place the Queen's presence above his other responsibilities. The same goes to the rest of the EXCOs, elected representatives and senior government official. Obviously, Khalid is placing his "interest" on soccer above the Queen's presence.

  14. At Federal level, Malaysia looked foolish with illegal immigrants escape from immigration holding depots. In Selangor, they blundered during the Queen's visit. One by BN, the other by PR. Either way, both are in embarrassing predicaments!

    Are we goofy, inefficient, nonchalant or what? Or are our leaders just plain clowns with their feet too big for their shoes?

Of numbers, fumblers, singers and ...EC

The delay in announcing the results for P 212 Sibu by-election is technically contributed to the numbers game. Let's not waste time and go straight into it...

Numbers don’t lie. Yet, there are many things that we can learn from numbers. Sibu is just one of them…Some may be celebrating their win with kampua mee and some may be drowning their loss in tuak. I know of one who may be smiling in Sibu with his pipe...

The delay in announcing the results for P 212 Sibu by-election is technically contributed to the numbers game. Let's not waste time and go straight into it...
  1. Wong HL of DAP garnered 18,845 against BN's Robert Lau's 18,447 and Narawi Haron independent finished last with 232 votes. A majority of 398 votes;
  2. There were 2,537 postal votes and 395 spoilt votes, out of which 208 comes from postal votes;
  3. The majority of 398 constitutes to 1.06% of total counted votes and this is the dangerous part. Why? A vote recount can be done if the majority is 1 % or less of total counted votes. And this is where the problem lies;
  4. If 208 of the spoilt postal votes were recognised as BN's or independents, then at that period of time, EC may go for recount because the majority will be at 0.81 % (if all the spoilt votes goes to the independent candidate). If the spoilt votes goes to BN, then the majority will be less than 398 and it will be a far worse scenario;
  5. Is that the reason why EC was delaying the announcement? It was fortunate that ASTRO 501 carried the event live and you will see how the returning officer is not at his "mode" to announce the result. The RO, Mong See Meng, looked puzzled and confused to the extent that he even announce Robert Lau's vote as "Lapan belas ribu empat ribu empat puluh tujuh" instead of "Lapan belas ribu empat ratus empat puluh tujuh";
  6. In P212 by-election, 37,524 votes were counted against 2008's 35,853 voters who voted then. There is an increase of 1,671 votes during the by-election;
  7. There is a voters' swing of approximately 3,633 towards PR-DAP (3,325 2008 majority + 398 by-election majority);
  8. EC initially announced that 32,742 (59.86 %) voter turnout which was reported in the Sun but later revised the figure to 70 % voter turnout. EC never satisfactorily explain the 10.14 % difference in their reporting. How did EC report 2 different figures of 5,177 votes? That's a lot of votes and can reverse the results!
  9. EC has also forecasted that the voter turnout should be hovering around 80 % which should be around 43,756 which is another possible additional of 6,232 votes. This too may affect the outcome of the election.

Enough with numbers. EC decided to play tough and did not recognise MAFREL as one of the election watchdog. Fine! EC should be proving why election watch dogs are unnecessary by being transparent in their work. Obviously something is definitely not right when the postal votes held back the announcement. Postal votes are the first to be casted and first to arrive to EC office. So, why is it the last to be counted? Can EC explain the rationale and the logic behind this?

EC's inconsistencies in announcing voter turnout percentage is also puzzling. Why the difference of 10 %? Is the EC chairman properly and constantly updated or is he relying on stone-age technology? Heck! Our EC Chairman was there in UK to monitor the election there and yet he make a mockery of himself with the figures. There is so much diffference between a low voter turn out and a better voter turn out. It is better for the EC Chairman to keep mum if he did not know the exact final voter turn out figure! Unless, he wants to start a controversy of some sort...

Sibu has decided and all parties should abide by their decision. Moving on...

Fumblers? Yeah, there is no such word in the dictionary, or is there? For now, let's take fumbler(s) as the one who fumbles in Sibu.

Top of the list should be 1MPM6 Najib himself. His "You help me, I help you" speech in Sibu on the final night is a classic fumble. It really borders on breaching the election rules. How can one say that and tied a RM 5M carrot to the voters of Sibu? Is it not the government's responsibility to ensure the welfare of its citizens? Isn't Sibu part of Malaysia and as such the federal government and the state government's responsibility to take care of their welfare including flood mitigation? It is truly embarassing to see and listen to 1MPM6 Najib uttering those words in the hope of winning over their votes. Does 1M stands for 1 Malaysia or does it stands for 1 Money? Najib should get his priorities right and stop putting conditions for our welfare. It is, afterall, our basic needs and not a luxury!

BN really shoots their own feet when they side-stepped "white hair" Taib Mahmud in P 212. This is "white hair" territory and BN should treat it as such. Easing out "white hair" in P 212 is not the answer. "White hair" may be a burden but BN forgets that he is an asset in Melanau and Iban areas. By ommiting "white hair", BN is making it easy for PR to make inroads to the Melanaus and Ibans and along the way may have bagged those telling 398 votes! Now, Taib Mahmud can say squarely to 1MPM6 - "if you can say to Rejang Park - you help me, I help you; the same can be said to you, Mr PM - you by-pass me and I will by-pass you". Najib needs to do serious soul searching - is BN ready to fall in Sarawak or will BN gamble on "white hair" to retain Sarawak?

Someone asked - what about Alfred Jabu? Well! Alfred Jabu is one of the current deputy chief minister of Sarawak. His role is to contain the Dayaks' vote in BN. Alfred Jabu does not carry out his duties well enough. Result - Sibu fell. Maybe Alfred Jabu is better off by changing his name to Alfred Jambu...then maybe he will be more marketable. Sibu's loss will make it much difficult for Alfred Jabu to take over fom Taib Mahmud.

BN also belittle the independent candidate. This is another suicidal move by BN. What BN should have done is to "convince" Narawi to dropped out of the race. That would have bought BN the crucial 232 votes and narrow the gap with PR's Wong HL. But, No...BN is too high and mighty when they choose to ignore pesky Narawi. It is BN's fumble for letting Narawi into the equation. Then, there is always the question - what if Narawi quit the race and all of his 232 votes go BN's way? Will that force BN/PR DAP/EC to meticulously go through the 208 spoilt postal votes? It will be interesting if that happens last night ...but it never did, all because of BN's sheer arrogance! Just imagine a possible swing of 232 + 208 votes which will add up to 440 which further can leads to a wafer thin 42 vote BN majority win in P 212! That did not happen, all thanks to BN's election machinery which opted to pledges millions to the wrong person (s)... Alas! that chance dissipated on 10th May 2010...

Let's stop with another fumble, the last one here but not necessarily the last one in reality - that of splashing monies to the national type schools and missionary schools. What BN did is none other than to hurt the sensitivities of those hardworking donours who built the school from their own sweat and tears. Just because of the P 212 by-election, BN came in with bags of monies to buy off their hardwork. Isn't that insulting? There are better ways to approach the schools like offering more teachers, books for the libraries, courses for the present teachers etc. BN do not do that, BN choose to parachute in with bags of monies. Money in the bag does not equal to votes in the ballot boxes!

Singers? It's not surprising for BN to engage Jamal Abdillah to perform in Sibu. It will also not be surprising if BN choose to coax AF/Mentor/Imam Muda and the likes to beam from Sibu. That's BN's expertise and BN likes to party...but for Rosmah to sing two songs in Sibu? Apa ke bende nie?

Rosmah aka Mrs Najib herself had professed that she is not a politician. If so, what the hell is she doing in Sibu? She further claimed that she wanted to help out BN by singing - the truth is, it is better for her to zip her mouth. Maybe that 398 win is contributed by her singing...

Rosmah has better things to do if she really wants to. She should be talking to JJ, Rais, Najib to retract the "first lady of Malaysia" advertisement. If she did that before 16th may 2010, maybe it will be a turning point to BN. Alas! Rosmah is too proud to retract the advertisemen and for that BN stumbles in Sibu. It might be a good idea for PR to suggest Mrs Najib to start singing on BN stage in all upcoming by-elections to continue BN's losing streak... Look! Mrs Najib did not sing in Hulu Selangor. Why is she so itchy bitchy wanting to sing in Sibu? Is it because Mrs Rais Yatim is prodding her on? Birds of a feather will indeed flock together.... Muhyiddin should seriously look ito Mrs Rais factor if he still wants to remain the DPM.

Whatever it is, EC should buck up now. There are too many shortcomings that needs immediate remedial actions. Amongst others :-

  1. Clearly, the EC personnel needs re-training. The RO looked confused and oddly out of place;
  2. With Sarawak state election on the horizon, EC needs to ensure that all of its personnel are thoroughly briefed on the electoral procedures;
  3. EC personnel should be unbias. There are reports of EC personnel becoming over zealous when it comes to opposition party flages but hardly raised an eye for the same offense done by the ruling party;
  4. EC should come up with standard operating procedure on what, when, how, why, who, where;
  5. EC should be sending their personnel for public relation exercise. Better solutions and amicable situation can be created by just a friendly smile, something EC Chairman id devoid of;
  6. EC can list their preferred election watchdog committees who will provide their independent report on by-elections and general elections. These will be helpful to EC;
  7. For now, let's just hope that EC "breaks" the ice and call both ruling and opposition parties to a "get to know" party and take that opportunity to brief them on EC roles and collect positive feedbacks from the political parties.
Should the list go on? Nah...EC's chairman knows better. It is only that he choose the wrong choice and adapt the wrong approach for Sibu. He can always improvise in the coming rounds...

Numbers, fumblers, singers... what's the solution? Truthfully there are solutions on what BN can do to arrest the slide especially when BN Sarawak has to dissolve the state assembly by November 2011. 1 Year is a short time and there are many things need to be corrected in Sarawak. Sibu proves that national issues are as important as local issues. That said, BN should be thinking many times before proceeding with GST bill.

There are voices on the ground that BN will push for GST by 2011. If indeed that is true, BN is giving BN Sarawak their kiss of death as the issue will be used to the hilt by PR. That's one free advise for BN. On the rest....hey what do you think? There is nothing as free meals, you know!

If BN can pay RM 76M to APCO, shouldn't they do the same plus some more to save BN from losing Sarawak en route to losing Putrajaya? Even if BN decided to do so, do you think NC will take up the responsibility to advise BN? Fat chance! BN will do much better to approach KJ's "self appointed" Minister of Finance or swallow their pride and sit down with Muay Thai fighter combined with "veteran" Aspan of Subang Jaya. Maybe then, it will be a Ronin war worth watching... strategy vs strategy, I love that!

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Everybody loves Sibu...especially 1MPM6 Najib

The players dread the possibility of being hugged by Mrs Najib! So, they took the safest course of action...lost to China and avoid the possibility.

Seriously, 16th May 2010 is another important date to watch in Malaysian history. Forget about Thomas cup. Sibu is ready to show Malaysians the way to the future.

Someone whispered to me his theory why Malaysia lost to China in Thomas cup 2010 semi-finals. I will leave it to the readers to decide whether his theory is plausible or not. He strongly believed that our Malaysian cup lost the match against China because they wanted to avoid meeting Mrs Najib on 16th May 2010. Reason? The players dread the possibility of being hugged by Mrs Najib! So, they took the safest course of action...lost to China and avoid the possibility.

Maybe, it's true. Just watched how our Lee CW played on Friday. Tension and mistakes. He looked worried and he "tak main puas-puas". All because of Mrs Najib..heh heh heh...

Seriously, 16th May 2010 will be another important date in Malaysian history. Forget about Thomas cup 2010. Sibu is ready to show Malaysians the way to the future.

BN may not admit it but BN is desperate to retain Sibu P212 at all cost. That's why Najib make that extra effort to visit Sibu for the third time in the space of 2 weeks. It is an indication that Sibu is not easily bought...yet. Maybe the "price is still not right" and it is understood that all available fast boats are booked for some "express deliveries" tonight.

Why is Sibu so important? Well, "white hair" Taib Mahmud needs the win for him to get inspiration for the state-wide election date which must be held before July 2011. Winning Sibu will give the assurance for "white hair" to dissolve the state assembly and all is well in the land of the hornbills.

Najib needs Sibu for BN to inch closer to 2/3 parliamentary majority which BN lost in March 2008. Najib has no prolems when millions have been spent as goodies to Sibu. Chinese and missionary schools walked away with a cool RM 18 M budget. 1,000 students collected their 1Malaysia laptops which comes along with free broadband, as announced by Rais "I burnt the bridge" Yatim. Then few millions was later pledged to improve the roads in Sibu. Najib announced a conditional RM5M for flood mitigation in Rejang parkThe list goes on but dismiss the thoughts of EC. MACC and the rest to take appropriate actions because EC will comes out prepared to rubbish all claims of "buy-election" ready to "cleanse" Najib and BN from elections wrongdoings.

PR needs to win Sibu to prove that their pact is still strong. Winning Sibu will revive PR's fading fortunes when some of PR's MPs' decided to jump ship. If PR wins Sibu, then "white hair" will be forewarned that all is not well in Sarawak anymore.

If Sibu falls to PR, then BN's vault of safe 31 parliamentary seats is no longer a guarantee in Sarawak. If the 31 seats is no longer safe vault for BN, then PR's road to Putrajaya is back on track. Imagine if Sarawak's 31 seats shift to PR and a possibility of PR holding 80 + 31 parliamentary seats! It will be UK 2010 re-visited...

At the time of this writing, there are reports coming in that PR finale ceramah is brimming with people. Something like Penang before PR takes over the state in 2008! Najib will be perspiring cold sweat now. Despite his conditional project approval, Sibu comes out in full force to attend PR ceramah and warmly welcome Hadi. Najib blared 1Malaysia but it is PR that comes out tops with leaders from DAP, PAS and PKR with almost 60 MPs' taking centre stage on this finale night.

What do BN has to offer this finale night? Apart from Najib's conditional RM3M offerto Rejang park, BN needs Jamal Abdillah and a set of sexy dancers to woo the crowd. And Rosmah takes the microphone to "toture" the crowd with 2 songs including "The moon represents my heart". Isn't that song supposed to be PAS's love song? Is Rosmah wooing PAS? Does she has Najib's blessings to openly woo PAS?

Think about this - where are UMNO, MIC, PPP, Gerakan in Sibu? Yes, there are some peninsular BN leaders there in Sibu but they are there in their capacity as cabinet ministers. What about the component parties? Is this what Najib is preaching? 1Malaysia but BN can't even manage to have a descent 1BN in Sibu...

Either way, PR wins Sibu. A strong opposition in the form of combined PR has force BN to dish out all the goodies to Sibu folks. Something that BN will not give if PR is weak. Even "white hair" is dishing 50 % discount for Sibu land lease rate. Sibu will forever thanked PR for their strong presence there which is "forcing" BN to bring "extra goodies" and "compensations"...

Sibu will be indebted to PR because P212 by-election force Najib to fly to Sibu three times. Rais is forced to stay put with his "charming" mode. Muhyiddin seems side-stepped in Sibu. Never has Sibu witness the federal cabinet ministers non-stop trail there. It will be a long time before Sibu can see these faces again there unless Sibu goes for another by-election...

Will Sibu change? Let's see Najib's reactions when EC declared PR taking P212 on 16th May 2010. PR need the win to keep Najib on his toes. The Foochows are ready, the Melanaus are willing, the Ibans are accomodating...what about EC?

Of Si ibu, Sebu, Cebu, Sibu and...

I call on Sibu voters to rise in unison and give PR a chance to serve the community. It might be a small step for Sibu but a giant step for Malaysian democracy. If not now, when? If not Sibu, where?

For those who wants to help out Korperal Jemain bin Subi, please contribute to Maybank Account # 162106273888. TQ in advance...

Si ibu or simply put mother. The one woman that we find comfort and solace in our needs. How would a mother feel when her beloved sons and daughters are put under the spotlight, all for the wrong reasons?

Yes, we all know and come to grief together with Shah Alam, Seremban, Kampung Kuantan and also Sandakan. It is much easier for the vitims' families to come to terms with their losses or near losses as outpouring support and moral comfort provided the families with both financial and spiritual relieve.

The same cannot be said of the police personnel involved in the shootings. One was charged with manslaughter, the other was suspended from active duty, another one is currently investigated for negligence and the last group is cleared by internal police investigation. Summarily, it indicates the police actual state of affairs. Most probably, police personnel are not sent for refresher course nor were they given risk management and courses on how to manage difficult situations. In short, our police force training is inadequate!

How would a mother feel when his beloved son is accused of being "trigger happy"? Is this fair when the real problem lies with the system? It is not their fault when they failed to follow the SOP (Standard operating procedure). In the first plcae, were they briefed on the SOP? Were they reinforced with SOP? Is there regular talks or "tool box" chat on SOP? Is there talks and courses on how to react on difficult situation?

It is easy to accuse someone of being trigger happy, but are they really trigger happy? Who can vouch that they are trigger happy? Just check, how many times has these police personnel involved in shooting incidents? From there, one can deduce whether they are trigger happy or not...

Some may frown on blogger Kickdefella for his exposure on Kelantan's PAS. That's his personnal vendetta. However, hats off to Kickdefella for taking pains in contacting Jemain Subi's family and offer them whatever financial aid he can muster. That speaks volume of the blogger's social service in helping out the down and trodden...The same goes for Rocky on his coverage of Jemain Subi and his predicament...

Sebu is a malay word which is loosely translated as "full, choked, blocked". That's what I understand when "RTM axe whistleblower Chou". What whistleblower? What is wrong in covering an issue from both sides of the coin? Is it Tiger Ib's intention to present just one side of the coin? If this is the reason why Tiger Ib is brought into RTM, then it is better for him to change his name to Pussy Ib...

Why block? What is RTM scared of? The said Bakun dam documentary is aired under Galeri Mandarin Nasional. Tell me, how many Mandarin speaking and understand Chinese (and non-Chinese) watch TV2? They would prefer watching Astro's emperor package over RTM 2. The point here is simple - even if RTM decided to air all the nine episodes, the impact is minimal when majority of the Chinese audience prefer other channels over RTM 2.

If Pussy Ib and RTM is still concern about the impact of Chou's documentary to Sibu, RTM can choose to reshuffle the programming and air the documenary during the graveyard shift. Simple and efficient!

Yet RTM choose to do it the hard way. Terminating Chou is not the answer. In fact, it will create another massive image problem to RTM, Rais and BN. No wonder the Chinese are shying away from RTM, and no wonder the Chinese voters are rock solid behind the opposition.

In fact, what RTM is doing is actually putting an extra burden to 1MPM6 Najib. It is a pity to see najib puffing and huffing in Sibu trying to "sweetalk" the Chinese, dishing "ang paus" which is normally done by DPM during by-election. It shows that Najib is turning into a "one man show", all because of screw ups from RTM, Rais and Najib's own machais...

Cebu is synonymous to Philippines. Mention Cebu and Philippines will come in. Link Philippines and Sabah and you will get illegal immigrants.

Illegal immigrants is getting out of hand in Sabah. It is BN's failure to address the issue and PBS is not happy about it. So far, there is no light at the end of the tunnel. BN is sinking deeper into the quicksand when it comes to illegal immigrants.

BN especially UMNO needs illegal immigrants badly to guarantee win after win in state and federal election. But winning is not everything when resentment is going out of hand. BN and UMNO knows the issue. UMNO knows the problems well but illegal immigrants are UMNO's best bet to remain in power - both in Sabah and Malaysia!

Sibu is now P212. Najib is throwing goodies and candies to win the hearts of Sibu. For EC, whatever Najib does is not corruption and never transgress the election laws. But is it so?

Najib giving 6000 hectares to Ibans, RM 15 M to Chinese and independent schools, RM 34M for Pasai Siong road and the list will go on. It seems that Najib is confirming that an MP is more valueble dead than alive! A dead MP will drive Najib to pledge projects, land, monies to win the voters. To that, I say...keep on promising Najib but watch your kitty. Does Malaysia has that much to spend?

Sibu also prove another point. Either Najib forgets that he is the PM or his DPM fails Najib's KPIs. By being present in Sibu during the by-election, Najib is desperate for BN's win and at the same time Najib is saying "DPM, you are no good, an incompetent lot". Najib needs this win to shore up BN's fortunes. Najib need this win to purt confidence to BN to dissolve the state assembly and call for statewide election.

Sibu is no easy meat for Najib. Najib "touch 'n go" at Tua Pek Kong's temple is not getting the right oooommpph. Najib is shying away from national issues in Sibu.

I may not know much about Sibu but I believe Sibu can teach Najib and BN a thing or two about long forgotten promise. I wish Sibu the best to "mildly" slap Najib on the face, just like what the Chinese of Hulu Selangor did on 25th April 2010. Maybe BN can win P212 but use 15th May 2010 as an opportunity to tell off BN - enough is enough. Promises are promises and BN's promises are meant to be broken...as proven for the past 50 years.

I call on Sibu voters to rise in unison and give PR a chance to serve the community. It might be a small step for Sibu but a giant step for Malaysian democracy. If not now, when? If not Sibu, where?

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Of 1M : BN is not ready, parliament is not accomodating...

  1. Only this morning I have a word with 1 E.P.I.C. volunteer and true enough, we are not ready...yet.
  2. Let's start from the top. That means BN. Not because of anything personal against BN but BN has been in the corridors of power together with its predecessor, Perikatan since 1957.

    By chance, BN Selangor held its convention in Shah Alam on 7th April 2010, few days before the important P94 by-election. Noh Omar in his keynote address alluded that non-Malays should be grateful that they were granted Malaysian citizenship. 47 years after the formation of Malaysia , Noh Omar still brings out this issue and with that 15 delegates from MCA Kapar walked out of the convention in protest. Simple question really - is Noh Omar's non-Malays means Jawa? Is he implying that Khir Toyo should be grateful of being considered a Malaysian citizen when his father is born across the straits?

    Do you guys still remember Noh Omar? His controversial speech in parliament back then cause sight diplomatic riff with China. He never seems to learn from mistakes, did he?

  3. From thereon, let's make a brief tour detour to parliament. Remember how Anwar Ibrahim was referred to the Rights and Priviledge committee for bringing up APCO? He was accussed of misleading the house and thus referred to the committee.

    Then, what about Tajuddin Abdul Rahman? He claims that Penang DAP leaders frequented Hong Kong and Singapore to sell government secrets but he was spared from being referred to the Rights and Priviledge committee.

    Instead,Karpal Singh was suspended from parliament for 10 days. Not only that, Mahfudz was also referred to the Rights and Priviledge committee which was later withdrawn the day after.

    Just like that, the house speaker has effectively possibly "remove" 3 opposition votes by virtue of referring Anwar to the committee, suspending Karpal for 10 days and almost referring Mahfudz to the committee. Now, what happens if there is an important bill of say GST bill to be tabled. Will this effectively be passed as BN will surely scores a 2/3 majority by way of suspended opposition parliamentarians?

  4. And do you think I will let PR off the hook? Sorry, no dice. PR parliamentarians are also at fault. Yes, Anwar did provide "documented" evidence to back up his claims. Whether the documents are genuine or hearsay is up to the people to judge.

    What I don't understand is - is there any need for Mahfudz to chant UMNO-APCO? If I want to have cheerleaders, I can easily go to Los Angeles and get the Laker girls here! What we want are responsible parliamentarians and not bunch of cheer-leading packs!

  5. Where does that leads us? Are we really ready for 1Malaysia? If BN themselves are confused with the "pendatang" and "grateful" issue, then how can they live up to Najib's 1Malaysia's concept?

    Recalling back, Najib's 1Malaysia slogan is "rakyat didahulukan, prestasi diutamakan" which is translated as "people first, performance now". However, Selangor BN convention prove that for Noh Omar and his bunch of UMNOputras, it is "Melayu didahulukan, kedudukan diutamakan" which can be loosely translated as "Malay first, position now". It proves that UMNO has not change and is still living in their "UMNO is the world" syndrome!

    Our parliament is not ready. The parliamentarians are too busy accussing each other and thus spare less time in positively giving constructive and dynamic ideas to better the peoples' welfare. They are more adapted in turning the august house into an animal farm and the chairs have proven again and again that they are biased against the opposition MPs'. Is this the 1st world parliamentarian mentality that we are talking about? Honestly, I think the kids in kindergarten can discuss better and more matured than some of the parliamentarians!

    The opposition block? Obviously they are too engrossed in opposing everything that sometimes they forget that they are part of the team that should look into our well-being!

  6. That said, should we encourage our young to register as voters? Surely, we have many ways to get the masses to register as voters but will that change the parliamentarian behaviour? Will that rid us of unnecessary "glamour seeking", "cheer-leading" rants? Will it guide our speakers from being overly biased?
  7. Just try to understand why Najib is bringing along 2 independent MPs in the form of Zahrain and Zulkifli Noordin to be part of Malaysia-USA caucus. Why is Najib bringing along 2 independent MPs who are not party-driven to be part of the caucus? Are we leaving the caucus into the hands of 2 independent MPs' who are known to be individually motivated and who, on record, are fiercely championing the "Melayu didahulukan" and overtly strong stance on "Allah" issue?

    If that is Najib's line of thoughts, then I did not see his 1Malaysia concept live to celebrate a third annivesary and I am being modest when I said that.

  8. Therefore, I believe we are not ready for 1Malaysia concept. We have not lived up to 1Malaysia concept. What we have now is just pure rhetorics...no action talk only. NATO!

    The way out from this quicksand is for us the rakyat to intelligently convey the message that we are looking for 1st world parliamentarians. The rest ie 2nd world and 3rd world parliamentarians can start queing up to collect their retirement cheques. We have to rid our parliament from those "rent-seekers" who gobble the highlights by accussing others without documented back-up and evidence, those who purposely create discord in parliaments and also to replace speakers with more fair and just people.

    If this is too hard to find,NC is just a call away and he will gladly share his list of preferred parliamentarians, regardless of their political affiliation...

Of 66 - 63: Too close for comfort

Whilst most are rejoicing Malaysian soccer team's chance to end 20 year-medal drought, another cliffhanger was being played in the real corridor's of power.

1M PM6, Ong TK and Koh Tsu Koon had to rush to the parliament's house to secure a slim 66-63 2010 budget approval. Imagine these :-
  • We have 222 elected MPs' and only 129 were present during the crucial voting. That's only 58.1 % attendance;
  • Where are the balance 93 MPs'? Are all of them on oversea missions? Are all of them in Viantine, Laos? Are all of them in front of TVs' rooting for Malaysia at the expense of the budget approval?;
  • BN has 137 MP's and yet they can only secure 66 votes which is 48.17 % of their actual strength. Where are the balance 71 BN MPs?;
  • Better still there are 3 independent MPs' in the house. Were they there last night? If they were, which side did they vote? If all 3 were present and all 3 voted for BN, then BN owes them a lot;
  • PR has 82 MPs' and 63 were in the house. That's 76 % attendance which is quite good. But where are the balance 19 MPs? Although some were allowed to attend to their function elsewhere but what about the others?
  • Is it that crucial to have the voting done at night? If the courts decided that MACC could not interrogate suspects after office hours, what about parliament voting? Is it necessary to carry out the voting that particular night? Couldn't they postpone the voting to the next morning?

It shows that BN is still too complacent and that complacency almost cost 1MPM6 his 2010 budget. It is time for DPM as BN's whip to start cracking. Remember when AAB called on BN's MPs' to attend the parliamentary sessions? Where are their attendance book? Who have been playing truants at the peoples' expenses?

I see that the opposition has been quite responsible in carrying out their duties. BN? It seems that they never learn or rather unwilling to learn from the harsh lesson of 2008. If 1MPM6 cares about his seat after GE13, he should start his house cleaning early and bring in dedicated party workers.

As for the opposition, they are getting there. What tehy need is sime refinement. It is too taxing to have some of their MPs' doubling uup as state reps as well as Menteri Besars. The opposition must learn how to share the cake. One person juggling between various commitments may be too taxing for him too.

It is also time for the 3 independent MPs' to flex their skinny muscles. Now is the right time for them to vote based on their conscious and it will not be too much to say that both BN and PR will be more than willing to meet their needs.

That said, Malaysia needs a strong government and BN MPs' should not be lulled into complacency anymore. If BN MPs' wanted to serve the people, they better serve now or else they should be packing their bags and their seats in the coming elections...

Of special deals : Time, acceptance, hot item and...

There you have it, the special deals for the month of October. And comes 24th October 2009, there might be some icing on the cake for public servants, as well...Beware of these handouts as are mere baits to get us all hooked up...again.

  1. Now that UMNO circus has left the KL scene, some form of tranquility has returned to this financial hub of Malaysia. However, the calmness is only at the surface whilst there is still major underground movements ready to explode the surface. Time? Unknown. Venue? All over the place. The same as seismologists could not predict exactly the time and the location of the next "big one".
  2. Let's start with time. MACC chief effectively says that the people needs more time to judge its effectiveness. Essentially, MACC chief said :-

    • MACC wanted to be more professional in its work to gain the peoples' trust;
    • MACC are aware of the public's reduced confidence in the system;
    • Arrest of individuals from the ruling party does not get printed in the media because the ruling party members are media shy and does not want to publicise the matter;
    • MACC (then-ACA) arrested 3 BN members compared to 2 opposition members in 2008;
    • MACC arrested 7 BN members compared to none from opposition members in 2009;

  3. Reciprocating what MACC chief said, consider these :-

    • MACC should not only issue the statement that they want to be professional but they must also act professionally in dispensing their duties;
    • Being aware of public's reduce confidence is not the answer. MACC must also take radical steps to gain the public's confidence in the system;
    • MACC must take the necessary steps to hold PCs' revealing those prosecuted MACC to both MSM and alternative media as well as publish and update the names of those arrested in their official web-page;
    • It is not that the ruling party members are media shy. Has MACC thinks of the possibility of "intentional news black-out" so that those ruling party members names were not exposed?
    • On the numbers of BN members caught in 2008 and 2009, did the arrest take place during the party election? Is this not a method to "eliminate" those seeking better positions in the ruling party?
    • Is this another subtle way for the MACC chief to ask for "extension" of service?

  4. Next comes acceptance. No...it is not directly connected to MACC's request for more time to prove their worth. This is something to do with the coming Halloween galore in Perak's assembly sitting. After giving a rousing speech to the more than 2,000 delegates in UMNO's AGM, 1MPM6 Najib focussed Perak.
  5. Malaysian Insider carried a newsreport regarding some who claimed that they were paid to attend 1Malaysia launch in Ipoh, Perak. Even if we assume that 60 % of the 30,000 spectators (as counted by MSM) were paid RM 30 per head to attend the launch, it has already comes up to RM 540,000. That's a lot of money to maintain an already swelling ego. But 1MPM6 Najib's trip to Perak is not solely on 1Malaysia launching...his main agenda is to boost Zambry's fortunes in Perak and to prepare BN for the coming 28th October state budget sitting.
  6. In defending BN Perak, 1MPM6 Najib start the offense moving when he said :-

    • BN (Perak) have already formed the state government and this has been sanctioned by the law although certain processes are still incomplete;
    • The laws must be respected;
    • No reason for disturbances or conduct that should otherwise create a wrong impression about politics in Perak;
    • BN will follow the rules and conduct the sitting according to the law;
    • Whatever action taken will be within the ambit of the law;
    • BN will not do anything that is against the provisions of the law;
    • Najib claimed that the starting point is when they (PR) stole one of our assemblymen;

  7. As they say it "Offense is the best option of defense". That's what 1MPM6 did to defend Perak's BN's government. However, "there's always the other side of the coin" such as :-

    • Granted that BN has already formed the government, but isn't it also a fact that PR has formed Perak state government prior to this? Isn't PR's Perak state government sanctioned by the law too?
    • Najib admitted that certain processes of the law are still incomplete - if this is so, will it be better for both BN and PR to let the court decides and let all processes of the law be complete? In fact 1MPM6 Najib can help to accelerate the processes of the law by getting the courts to sit and issue final judgements with respect to Perak's rightfil government of the day;
    • There is a distinct separation between judiciary and legislative. It is common belief that the legislative reigns supreme within the assembly. Why wasn't this respected by 1MPM6 Najib? Or is Najib only interested and binding to laws that benefitted him?
    • If both parties strive to resolve the problems in Perak then I am sure that undue disturbances and misconducts will not surface in the assembly sitting. The question is - can both parties put aside their egos for the benefit of Perakians?
    • Since when did BN follow the rule and conduct of the sitting? Isn't BN the one who started the ruckus in May when the "legitimate" speaker was forcibly removed from his chair? And when did the "other speaker" sworn in? Which rule is BN following?;
    • Action taken within the ambit of the law? In May when PR speaker was conducting the assembly sitting, why didn't the assembly bentara follow his instructions? Whose instructions is he following?
    • 1MPM6 talked about starting point. When did PR stole BN's assembly man from Perak? Isn't it the other way round? The BN assemblyman declare that he left BN for PR. On the point of who stole who, isnt it another fact that both Behrang and Changkat assemblymen from PR "kept" in Pekan? Isn't that "stealing"? Or is it "turning over";
    • Why repeat the same defensive statement of "I did it because he did it first"? Or is it a syndrome? If it is, two wrongs does not make a right...
    • since this is currently on Perak, is there any truth in MT's claim on "concessions" given to the Yussuf Izzuddin's lineage? If there is a grain of truth, then the Perak fiasco happens not because BN has the law on their side but BN has a chokehold on a royal household. I am not saying that it's tru nor do I say it's false. You know that 2 plus 2 equals 4, so figure it out...

  8. 1M PM6 Najib uses BN's "charming ways" to first "pursuade" the royal lineage to accept BN as the "rightful" government of the day for Perak. Then, BN use the courts as tools to continuously frustrates PR in lengthy legal battles that is surprisingly slow in disposing cases involving interpreting Perak constitution. At the same time, BN is using its powerful machineries and MSM to paint the picture that everything is OK in Perak.
  9. Thus far, 1M PM6 did not walk the talk in Perak. He may hide behind the throne and he may pass the baton to Zambry but the best option to resolve Perak's case is to return to the rakyat to decide. That means dissolving the state assembly, something that PR has been calling for, something that BN is not willing (although they have openly declared that the rakyat has return to BN's fold).
  10. It would not be complete if Sabah or Sarawak is left out of the picture. It is not enough when 1M PM6 Najib announced that 16th September will be a public holiday from 2010 henceforth. Whilst some claimed that Sabah's PKR is having differences in opinion, Zaid Ibrahim's sabbatical leave should not be taken at face value. Malaysian Mirror's scoop should be given some weight because :-

    • Sarawak PKR leader, Gabriel Adit, is said to be ready to abandon PKR;
    • Adit is ready to launch a new party;
    • 1MPM6 Najib is said to be dealing directly with Adit who is facing personal problems and financial debts;
    • Adit is given a good offer to return to BN with promises of help that benefits Adit;
    • Adit may bring with him 12,000 supporters to cross over to BN;
    • If Adit did cross over, BN can safely call for state election and bury PR in Sarawak for years to come;

  11. Credit should be given where it is due. If Malaysian Mirror is correct, then 1M PM6 Najib has finally wear down his former mentor Anwar and in the process expose Anwar to his weaknesses. On that note, PR is bruising deep and the internal injuries may be too much for PR to absorb the continuous blows from 1M PM6.
  12. If Adit will really return to BN, then PR can say goodbye to their dreams of wresting Sarawak from BN. Pure and simple.
  13. There you have it, the special deals for the month of October. And comes 24th October 2009, there might be some icing on the cake for public servants, as well...Beware of these handouts as are mere baits to get us all hooked up...again.

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Of expectation, guidelines and things in-between...

It is quite obvious that PR could not shake off its "opposition" mentality eventhough they have 5 states to run since March 2008. And if the leaders could not differentiate their role as "government of the day" then what can we expect from their followers?

Before proceeding further, let me offer my apologies first. This posting may hurt some nerves but hey...reality hurts. So, if by the end of this posting, some of you feel offended then relax and cool down because I have already offered my apologies even before I penned down the rest of the posting :)

It seems that the government loves to congregate at problematic areas, just like ants attracted to anything sweet and bees crowding flowers. Take PKFZ, for example. After years of persistence highlights by various parties and independent newspapers, the government finally admitted that PKFZ has problems. Whether it is a RM 4.2B or RM 12B does not matter anymore. It shows that someone up there has screw up big time.

Not only that, with new PKA Chairperson's guidance and admittance, the PKFZ bleeps and blunders goes under intense microscope, with special teams formed and tasked to get to the bottom of things. So it goes..reports, audits come filing in, police reports, MACC reports comes filtering in and Najib decided that there should be another super-high powered taskforce to find whether the project is carried out in good governance and to chart out its future direction. This time, the task force will be headed by KSN, Mohamad Sidek Hassan. Some think that the tskforce is one too many considering that the police, MACC and what nots are also getting a piece of action in PKFZ.

Whether it is one too many or one too late is no longer an issue. The issue here is how and why it happens? If it is done in slipshod way, by all means get those involved and put them on trial. It doesn't matter whether they are the backbone of UMNO or a member of the ruling coalition, it does not matter. If these entrepreneurs can do "magic" and makes our RM 12B vanish without a trace, then something is definitely wrong and it begins from the top.

That has been said and mentioned countless times. However what I am focussing is on the person entrusted to head the super task force, Mohamad Sidek Hassan. As if on cue, Malaysiakini posted a 2 part interview with Sidek Hassan that includes his defense on Perak state secretary's decision during the Perak fiasco. In the second part, Sidek mentioned that only a small number of the civil servants are politically active. That, in itself is an honest observation from the top civil servant.

However, for opposition stalwart Lim KS, he took the liberty to question the super taskforce formation and predicted that it is going to be a super "cover-up" taskforce. In other fronts, some of the independent bloggers think that Sidek will bring back happy days to BN people. In short, he is shot before he can even begins. Is that fair?

Remember back in 2007, Citizen Nades of the Sun commended Sidek's swift response to his enquiries. And it is not easy to get commendation from citizan Nades! Apart from that, Sidek is also responsible in setting up Permudah and his continuous unannounced checks to government offices are bearing fruits.

Now, we come to the core part. It is quite obvious that PR could not shake off its "opposition" mentality eventhough they have 5 states to run since March 2008. And if the leaders could not differentiate their role as "government of the day" then what can we expect from their followers? Why did I say that? Consider these :-
  1. Mohamad Sidek Hassan is right when he mentioned in the Malaysiakini interview that the role of the civil servants is to serve the government of the day;
  2. As there are federal list, state list and concurrent list, the position of the civil servants is clearly stated and it is up to the state government to make use of them;
  3. Mohamad Sidek has also stressed that the loyalty of the civil servants is to the government of the day (either state or federal dpending on which department they are serving);
  4. If the state government is unhappy with the performance of the civil servants seconded to the state from PTD (Pegawai Tadbir dan Diplomatik), the state can request for the officer to be replaced and transferred;
  5. In the event that the state government faced a crisis similar to Perak, the civil servant has to make a judgement call, based on the available information (in this case Sidek was silent on the role of the civil servant to abide to HRH Sultan's command);
  6. The civil servant (including the police) serve the government of the day which is suppose to be serving the public (and that means the police has to indirectly serve the public, subject to the government of the day's instruction);
  7. Most government servants are trying to do the best they can;
  8. Sidek commended the media for highlighting various lapses in the civil services and encouraged the media to continue chastitising those deemed to be "political" in performing their jobs;
  9. He however said that credit should be given where it is due;
  10. Sidek agreed that those civil servants who are not doing their job should be chastised;
  11. Sidek foresee that the civil servants are professional enough to know that loyalty lies with the paymasters;
  12. The civil servants have started to practise cross fertilisation of ideas and practises or exchange of officers where 20 top civil servants going into private practises whilst 20 from private practises join the civil servants;
Let me stop at 12. Take a minute or two to digest what Sidek is trying to say and the subtle message he is sending. His points are well delivered and it is up to the public to digest what he said.

Now, what is our expectation on super taskforce ? As mentioned earlier that their scope of work is to determine whether PKFZ project is carried out with good governance and to chart out its future directions. My expectation from this taskforce is easy :-
  1. The super taskforce to determine whether it is done with good governance. If it is not, where did they go wrong? Who are responsible? What are the actions to be taken? And since the AG is one of the members of the taskforce, what are the legal recourses that can be taken? Can Malaysia get back the money it spends? Is PKFZ value for money?
  2. what is the taskforce recommendations on its future directions? Do the public sector runs the show or farm it our to the private sector? What is the ideal price if need to dispose the project. Will the taskforce provide guidelines for future undertakings to prevent a second PKFZ? Who will approve the taskforce findings? who will implement its recommendations?
Looking beyond the taskforce, what will happen after that? Who will be held accountable for the past, present and future of PKFZ? I see that Sidek Hassan will carry out his task in good faith and once he handed his findings, the ball is back onto the government's foot. After that? Will the report be archived and become a home for cobwebs? Will it be hidden in the many reports submitted to the government? Will it be ever discussed in the parliament? Is it another whitewash by the powers that control Malaysia?

Coming back to the "opposition mentality", it is also evidently clear that the opposition's approach is always of mistrust. The opposition has a pre-set and pre-conceived ideas that the public sector are BN's apparatus. It is not. The public sector is there to implement the policies set by the government of the day. This is where the opposition need to go for "Admin 101" classes and learn to differentiate the functions and responsibilities of public sector.

Let us take a case in point of say Perak under PR. What was their mistake when they govern Perak? Nizar, in his haste to show that he can do things has incidentally step on the royalty when he make the decision to transfer out an official from JAIP. No doubt that the officer is BN-biased but Nizar's mistake is to transfer him without consulting and getting HRH's blessing. The point is PR may govern Perak but PR must learn to respect the ruler ie HRH Sultan.

Need another point? Again concerning the Islamic religous council but this time in Penang. Lim GE in celebrating PAS's victory in Permatang Pasir indicated that Ismail will be heading Penang Islamic religous council. Granted Lim GE is the CM of Penang but Penang's Islamic religous council falls under HRH Agung's purview. Wouldn't it be more proper and "beradat" if Lim GE sought the blessing of HRH Agung before announcing his intention? And this is not Lim GE's fault alone. The bigger culprit is Anwar Ibrahim, the once DPM of Malaysia who also said the same thing. Anwar, of all people should know the " raja-raja Melayu" heads the states' islamic religous council. And Anwar, fails big time here...

What about Hassan Ali of Selangor? Same thing...he announced something that he should not. He should be getting HRH Sultan's blessing first and not jump the gun. The way I see it, Hassan Ali is trying to show off his "muscles" and he falls flat when HRH Sultan Selangor called him for a private audience.

Do I need to say more? Do you want me to tell where PAS Terengganu failed during their tenure to govern the state of Terengganu?

Briefly, what PR should be doing now is to give their full backing to Sidek Hassan to do his job in heading the super taskforce. If possible, arrange for aan appointment and offer whatever help available to facilitate his work. Sidek is facing an undaunting task, an additional work burdening his already overloaded scope of work. And all this because of the failures of politicians to keep PKFZ in check. Yes, it is the politicians from both camps who failed us. They failed to highlight the issues early and even when they highlight the issues, it has not been proprly addressed. PR can seek consolation to say that they do not have the numbers then but theyhave sufficient now to highlight it. Did they? And when things do not fall in places, a civil servant by the name of Sidek has been roped in to head the taskforce. So, is it fair to judge him when he has not even started? When he is not the cause of the problem?

PR, up to now a year after 2008, stills see themselves as opposition. They are not! They are running 5 states and in those 5 states, they are the Government of the day. If PR feels that their police chief is not doing the job, call him in, reprimand him and if he still fails then seek audience with HRH Sultan to plead their case to get the inefficient officer replaced. You think that it cannot be done? It has happened before in Selangor. It has happened before in Pahang. In those 2 cases, it's sufficient to say that the officials involved are not from police cotingent but higher up. One of the officials were caught in close proximity or as they say "khalwat". So replacing incompetent officials are nothing new.

It is funny to see that PR is always blaming the system when it is not to their advantageous. Blaming the system is not the answer. The key is how to work within the system and make use of the system to the fullest advantage. This is where PR is lacking. PR has strong willed leaders like Anwar, Karpal, Lim KS, Hadi Awang but none of them has experience working in the public sector. Anwar was parachuted in and never understand the mechanics of civil service. Karpal and Lim KS are outsiders whose life is to criticise and up to now have failed to realise that they are at a threshold of taking over the federal government. Their inexperience in running the government shows where idealism didn't work. The same goes for Hadi Awang.

PR is bent at picking up small issue. PR should be tackling major issues and not the small issues. Picking up and solving small issues are fine but it does not reflect their full commitment. PR has been seen to come into office in a confrontational stance and such, what ever the civil servants are doing is wrong (to PR). But PR itself failed to realise how the system works, how the public servants are tied by bureaucracy created by the government of the day, past and present. That's what PR should be looking at - how to improve the stystem and convert it to people-friendly system.

PR has to act as a responsible opposition (at federal level) and that means to act maturedly. THis is no longer the "us against them" era. PR could not just oppose for the sake of opposing. There are issues where both BN and PR can work together and there are issues where PR can take the lead. PR has level headed MPs' who are ready, but are the leaders ready? Are the supporters ready?

To Lim KS everything must be placed under royal commission. Why? Is it a necessity? A report is only as good as it is and the difference is the followup. The super taskforce will produce its reports, findings and recommendation, then? It is back to the politicians to make out how the reports will be handled. What I am saying is that, it all leads back to the politicians. So, don't blame others and make others punching bags for the politicians' failure to address the issue.

The lists go on but suffice for me to say it again - PR needs to understand the system and make use of the system. And if PR still could not understand, help is just a phone call away...

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

  1. ada dikalangan ADUN Selangor yang mempunyai masaalah sosial;
  2. penyiasatan rasuah terhadap ADUN DAP melemahkan kerajaan PR;
  3. masaalah dalaman diantara PAS dan DAP mengenai penjualan arak dikawasan majoriti Melayu;
  4. masaalah perpindahan kuil yang tidak dapat ditangani dengan baik oleh PR;
  5. masaalah dalaman diantara PKR dan PAS mengenai kedudukan kerusi MB Selangor;

  1. sudahkah Najib membuat benteng pertahanan yang kental untuk menahan kemungkinan penghijrahan beramai-ramai (dianggarkan 9 orang) ADUN UMNO Terengganu kepangkuan PR?;
  2. apakah UMNO bersedia untuk terus kalah dalam PRK yang akan datang?;
  3. apakah Taib Mahmud bersetuju diganti dengan kepimpinan baru di Sarawak?;
  4. apakah UMNO masih boleh berdiri gagah apabila MCA dan MIC sekarang sedang menghadapi kemelut politik mereka?;

Hingga ketemu lagi...selamat malam M'sia...dimana jua anda berada...

PKR is drowning, will Anwar keep it afloat?

So, what is Anwar's next move? Is he still thinking of another 916? For those who forgets, 916 is 16th September when Anwar predicted that PR will take over from BN in running Malaysia. That was a year ago and that date passed with Anwar failing to prove his prediction. If Anwar has any thoughts of declaring another 916, my say is it is better for Anwar to keep his prediction to himself and spare the trouble of anxious waits from both BN and PR camps.

  1. PKR is now facing peatfire and Anwar should be going in now to control and extinguish the fire.
  2. When its partner is smelling another victory in Permatang Pasir, PKR's ship is leaking in two different states.
  3. First up is the announcement from Kedah. Lunas assemblyman, Mohd Radzhi Salleh, who declared that he quits PKR and remains an independent assemblyman whilst retaining his state executive council post.
  4. His reasons for quiting PKR? His loss of confidence towards PKR's leadership. PKR's initial response? Radzhi's resignation could be triggered by MACC's investigation into his tourism portfolio whilst at the same time declared that PKR is dissatisfied over his performance.
  5. Before this, Khalid Ibrahim of Selangor on 20th Augut 2009 has advised one Badrul Hisham Abdullah, Pelabuhan Kelang assemblyman, to resign if he canot serve the people.
  6. In short, this is unbecoming of PKR. I have written about this way back on 28th May 2009 that PKR must put its house in order. THree months has passed and still Anwar failed to get his act together.
  7. Anwar is busy accussing BN of trying to politically chop him down that he did not spend enough time to reinforce PKR. Is this the best Anwar can do? No doubt PKR is led by his wife, Wan Azizah but everyone knows who runs the show.
  8. Just imagine what PKR elected reps has put us through? By-elections in Permatang Pauh, Bukit Selambau, Penanti and Perak fiasco is contributed by PKR's reps of Changkat Jering and Behrang.
  9. In short, PKR has proved that it is a party that failed to carry out a thorough check on its candidates. It is a greenhorn party that happens to be taking advantage of the groundswell that put BN in its place. However, in doing that, PKR is exposed to a "sudden" prominence beyond its expectations. And now, that prominence is backfiring on PKR.
  10. Has anyone notice the absence of PKR's deputy, Syed Husin, from its national scene? Is PKR solely run by Anwar Ibrahim? With support from Azmin Ali, Tian Hua, Gobalakrishnan, Khalid Ibrahim and their youth chief? What about the rest?
  11. PKR can divert the media attention by accussing MACC of investigating Radzhi but is that the real issue? Others can blame MACC of "selective" investigation but to me, nobody should question MACC when they carry out investigation. It is their duty to investigate when there is a report made. Pure and simple. If there is an element of selective persection, it must be addressed separately in a different forum. Afterall, what is the use of setting up numerous MACC advisory panels if they cannot function?
  12. If indeed Radzhi is being investigated, let it be. MACC is doing their job and Radzhi must answer for his actions. Being a PKR rep and EXCO does not give him the immunity from being investigated.
  14. It is time for Anwar to steer PKR from further trouble. His PR partners are doing fine. DAP and PAS, with their experience and strong leadership are still intact. What about PKR? It seems that PR's ship is having a big gash on PKR's side. When will Anwar acts?
  15. Anwar is known to be an orator. A good one, no doubt. But talking without action is nothing. What PKR needs now is strong action to arrest the problems. Who can do that? Anwar? He may be putting his priority wrong and thinks more about his sodomy case than on how to salvage PKR. Syed Husin? He is nowhere to be seen and honestly he is too soft to bring out the whip.
  16. Khalid Ibrahim? He is besieged in Selangor and cannot do much outside Selangor. Azmin Ali? He is too dependent on Anwar and he has been at odds with many PKR leadership to command support.
  17. Tian Hua? With him around, PKR may end up as a party willing to stand in front of police personnel cars. Gobala? Too busy fighting off police arrest. Zulkifli Nordin? He will scare the non-muslims away with his hard stand. Cikgu Bard? Then it will just be PKR vs KJ and not PKR vs BN....
  18. Where am I heading then? It shows that there is no credile leader in PKR to come forward and take charge. Everyone is on his own. Everyone has his own agenda. Radzhi has declared that he is a nationalist. That means he is better suited to be in UMNO ranks. That said, it is hard to see Radzhi joining PAS because PAS's concept is based on religous approach and not nationalistic approach.
  19. Badrul Hisham? His problem is his mental capability. One friendly blogger, Zorro, describes him as a person who could not care less.
  20. The people has rise to occassion in showing BN who is the boss. The question now is - Do PKR perform to the peoples' expectation? And why did I single out PKR? Because there is not much problem coming from DAP and PAS camps. No doubt DAP and PAS has some hiccups here and there but not to the extent of causing a pandemic-like problems.
  21. The people will still stand by PR if there is by-elections if that by-elections are due to legitimate vacancy but I doubt the people will stand by PR if by-elections are made necessary due to resignation (like the one by Radzhi) or forced medical reasons (if it happens to Badrul Hisham).
  22. Finally, Anwar has to ask himself - is it worth it? Is his selfglorification more important than the nation? By that, Anwar has to trascend above races and think about Malaysians. Do he has the fighting spirit to carry on or will he choose to think about himself before he thinks about Malaysia?
  23. Anwar must realise that he is not Nelson Mandela nor is he on the same platform as Gandhi. If he choose to be Hassan al-Banna then he better act as one. The choice is still his and I will be watching carefully...
Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...
