Withering patriotism?

  1. Why? Why? Why?
  2. 52 years down the road, are we facing an identity crisis? What is wrong or what went wrong?
  3. I am not talking about BN keeping the scoresheet of 1 - 7 (which means PR is leading at 7 - 1).
  4. I am not that hype up about the problems in UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PPP (and the same goes to PKR, PAS, DAP).
  5. You want to talk about PKFZ, MACC, caning for the model ? I will gladly listen.
  6. But that's not it...
  7. I am perplexed and deeply concern with our attitude. I did not see many national flags in Kuala Lumpur and this is already 27th August 2009, 4 days short of 31st August. Why are there less Jalur Gemilangs draping buildings in KL?
  8. Is it because 2009 merdeka day falls in the month of Ramadan? Flags don't fast, do they?
  9. Is it because 2009 merdeka celebration will be held in Bukit Jalil? What has location got to do with Merdeka day.
  10. Is it because we have a new Minister of Information? You mean Rais "I burnt the bridge" Yatim is not doing his job? You mean he is too busy commenting on issues not related to his ministry to such an extent that he forgets his responsibility?
  11. Is it because PR wins majority of parliamentary seats in KL? PR members and supporters are also Malaysians.
  12. Is BN still mourning for their Permatang Pasir loss? When you enter competition, you either win or you lose, isn't it true? There are no joint winners in elections.
  13. Is it because there will not be any Merdeka countdown (concerts) in Dataran Merdeka and KLCC? You mean, we are only excited when there are free concerts?
  14. And finally, is it because of withering patriotism? Are we taking things for granted? Are we turning into zombies, devoid of patriotism?
  15. Honestly, I have no clues. Maybe I am getting paranoid. I love Malaysia and I am feeling downright depressed at the way Kuala Lumpur is, 4 days before 31st August. I wish KL will put up more Malaysian flags to celebrate Merdeka. And the same goes to other cities, towns, kampongs across Malaysia.
  16. By the way, have you raised the Malaysian flag in your homes? If you haven't, it is still not too late. A Malaysian flag in Mydin cost less than RM4. Please show your patriotism and love towards Malaysia. (May not be applicable for Malaysians staying overseas :))
  17. Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!
Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Our country has been hijacked by crooks.

I am loyal to my country but i owe the govt ZERO loyalty, in fact i condemn them to the deepest core of my being.

nightcaller said...

Whilst I agree on your "crooks" getting the better of us temporarily BUT the government is made up of the King, the jurisdiction, the executives, the legislatives, the administrations and lastly - the most powerful of them all, the rakyats.

We still owe our loyalty to the King, don't we? Even if we condemn those crooks for hijacking Malaysia, we still have to fly our proud flag - to shore up our loyalty and our determination to kick those goons out in GE 13.

Kepercayaan kepada tuhan? Well there is nothing wrong with that as most of us (except atheists) profess in their own religion and every religion has its God(s). That basically cover every Malaysian, am I right?

I still say

Thks. If not us, who? If not now, when? If not here, where? If not this, how? what?

Maybe it's time for bloggers from both sides and also the non-partisan to temporarily bury the hatchet and jointly celebrate the spirit of independence. You organise, OK?

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Anonymous said...

If we were to truly b bury the hatchet and b non partisan abt celebrating merdeka, the BeeEnd govt shld really b non partisan and invite the Opposition leaders to share the Merdeka stage, get them the same airtime as govt on TV to give a Merdeka message also to ALL Malaysians regardless of the political divide.

Now that would be in the spirit of Merdeka!!!! We all know exactly how bias though the current govt is.

nightcaller said...

Anon 9:10 am

Well, it seems that both sides have successfully failed to differentiate between political matters and national matters.

Independence day is supposed to be celebrated by Malaysians as a nation, regardless of political affliations. As such, the celebration should be by all and not confined to the cocooned few.

Just because we think that the current government is biased, do we as the people and the rakyat must reciprocate their actions in opposite manner? I don't think so! Instead this is the time for us to stand and be counted as members of a proud nation. The nation that we called Malaysians on the land we called Malaysia.

Hi nightcaller,

As I've written in Dato Sak's - do we need form over substance?

No flying flag = not patriotic????

Perhaps, as someone said - my understanding with my god is PERSONAL. I dont need to show/tell the world!

There r alternative ways to show our love for M'sia! And the outside world dont need to know!

For a start - how about giving a helping hand to our hungry native Sarawakians?

Flag to them is no good, Maggie mee does. Take the money to buy Jalur Gemilang to buy food & make their Malaysia Day (as they know it) a more meaningful one.

I am not saying not flying flag = not patriotic. But I lambasted the corporations (and owners of tall/mega buildings in KL) for their lack of sensitivity.

But of course, it will be better if individuals proudly display the Jalur Gemilang from their homes this Merdeka month (up to 16th september).

As long as you are comfortable with ur understanding towards ur god is fine with me because I believe there is no religion on earth that ask their followers to practise corruption, robbery etc.

Alternative ways to show our love for M'sia? No need for people to know? I think you get it wrong there. As a nation, we must stand proud to say that we are malaysians. A strong and united nation will command respect from others. If we insist on doing it on personal and individual basis, we are no better that a stick of coconut leaf (lidi). It is brittle and easily snapped. Together, we are a broomstick, able to sweep rubbish and what nots.

Hungry native Sarawakians? Malaysians are known to be a generous lot. If u feel that there are those in need of help, flash the information over and I am sure many good samaritans will come forward to give a helping hand. All you need to do is to air their grievance and sufferings for the good doers to start the ball rolling. After all, we are all Malaysians...

Thks. I have read Harris Ibrahim's blog and on my part I will put the account number on my side bar...

On the STAR news, my understanding is that the bridge was dismantled because the area has been earmarked to be flooded soon as part of the dam. So, basically we cannot blame squarely on the logging company.

In relation to that, if u are a Sarawakian based in sarawak, I trust it is better for you and the villagers to go directly to a minister and request for a bailey bridge to be built to restore the link. I trust that both JKR and the army has this facility (remember how they solve the Bukit Antarabangsa slope collapse?).

All we need to do is to collectively think on hopw to solve the problem and resolve the issue for our comrades in interior Sarawak.

Nightcaller,
My apology for not sticking to the topics. Well, some goons have placed cow heads in front of Selangor state secretariat. They are protesting on the relocation of Indian temple in Section 23. Where is Hassan Ali? I wanna ask him. Is it Islamic to do such thing? I am very suspicious such "wayang" being played again by Barisan Nasional
You know Christ has warned us against Hypocrites. We don't need anymore "Pharisees" & "Saduccees". Yeah, know the Law but don't have the heart to follow the law

Somehow I know you are going to raise the issue.

Looking at it objectively, it is clear that these 20 or so protesters is the minority lot. Normally the friday congregation in the masjid will be filled to the brim i.e. more than 3000 pax. And these protesters can only manage to "pursuade" 20 or so to follow them.

Looking at their posters especially the "take beer" which is an insult to the word "takbir", it is again clear that this is most probably the work of UMNO supporters. (remember that they use the posters "take beer" in Permatang Pasir).

As I see it, these protesters are trying to emulate the "pig head" stakes in Malacca a few months back.

From what I read in Malaysiakini, there were policemen around but do not take preventive action which strengthened my belief that this is an UMNO-initiated protest.

And since Malaysiakini has the photos of the protesters leaders, I have no doubt that the police should rope them in for unlawful assembly (as they say it a goup of more than 4 constitute to illegal assembly), create disharmony between inter-religion. Sincerely, I would support to put the leader (who talk of spilling blood) of the protesters in Kamunting as he is out to create racial harmony.

And finally, I believe that Hassan Ali will issue a statement against the protesters soon. And I can say to you now that, what the protesters did today is not Islamic. ut you can wait for Hassan Ali's statement if that makes you more comfortable. :)

Nightcaller,
It has been 1 day already. This kinda thing no need to wait. Especially for all motivator like Hassan Ali.
Bloggers like Harris Ibrahim & Zorro are gone bonkers. This is one good opportunity of being in favour again with the People of Selangor.
You can't imagine all huu haa going on in Malaysiakini & Malaysia Insider. Muslims are outraged with such actions

nightcaller said...

Looes74

I got your drift. 24 hrs has passed and still no Hassan Ali has not surfaced to gve his statement.

However, Khalid Samad, Mahfodz Omar and the official mouthpiece of PAS (Harakah) has all come out to condemn the action of those "protesters".

I am also looking forward to Hassan Ali's statement on this issue. Understand that the Selangor govt is going to have a townhall meeting on the temple relocation this 2nd Sept '09. Hope he will surfaced by then.

Nightcaller,
Looking at the comments by section 23 in Malaysia Insider, I am very adamant that PAS should intensify on public awareness & education. Seriously, it's really unthinkable some muslims could have commented that.
Malaysians need to be tolerant of each other. It's always a 2 way affairs. There are many places where churches, synagoges, mosques & temples are situated among each other.
Indonesia is one good example of secularism works for the benefit for everybody including muslims. France is another example that mosques mushroomed & muslim minorities not discriminated. Turkey too.
I envisage Malaysia to be Second Turkey. We need another Kamal Ataturk or even Sukarno. Malaysia shall always be secular to safeguard the interests of all Malaysians including muslims

Regards

Indonesia & Singapore are very similar. Bendera Merah Putih. LKY has reaffirmed the article 153 in Singapore constituition the same as article 152 in Malaysian constiution that malay & muslim special position is recognised & protected. It's time for muslims to be magnaminous. Kelantan has done it. So can Section 23.

nightcaller said...

Looes74

Do you know that Kamal Attaturk is highly unpopular amongst Muslims? Although he is highly regarded within the West but he is highly despised in Muslim countries including Muslim masses in Malaysia.

As for Singapore's special positions for Malays and Muslms, refer to http://www.unhcr.org/refworld/topic,463af2212,469f2f192,469f38d91e,0.html for some chronlogies. As I have stated previously, I will genereally not comment on other states' affair :)

Nightcaller,
In another note, it's day 2 for Hassan Ali. Remember Hassan Ali is Selangor PAS commisioner. There are 2 jokers claiming to be PAS members. I wanna ask what Hassan Ali gonna do about it. If he is so concerned about alcoholism in Selangor. This is worst
Ini merupakan satu penghinaan yang besar terhadap ISLAM.

Hassan Ali,
Apa macam? orang2 ini kenna buang ke? Kenna sebat ke? Atau apa. Tolong buat statement serta merta

Nightcaller,
PAS like PAP in the 50s are going to have schism soon. I will throw my lot on Husam Musa's team in getting rids of any Islam extremists in PAS. If got to use LKY's style of isolating the leftists, by all means. For the sake of PAS, Islam & Malaysia

Hassan Ali,
Kalay takut, letak jawatan serta merta. Many people including Zorro Unmasked & Harris Ibrahim are supporting your resignation. You wanna be Mohd Radzi, by all means

PAS VP, Mahfudz Omar has today denied that PAS members participated in the "cow-head" protest. Pls refer to http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/111832 for Mahfudz omar's PC.

So far Hassan Ali has not openly responded to the issue. Must be looking for better wordings, perhaps :0

PAS, in its own way has moved in leaps and bounds where professionals are joining them in droves, fitting in and complementing the scholars.

It's time for Hassan to think hard now because sooner or later he has to surface to seek audience with the Sultan on another matter.
