Nadra is dead...Nadra who?

To me, Nadra will always be remembered as Natrah, the girl who was brought up in Kemaman, Terengganu and married off to Mansoor Adabi in Singapore. Natrah was born as Bertha Hertogh to a Dutch Catholic family in Java, Indonesia.

  1. Bertha Herzog or Nadra is dead. Most will be puzzled and ask who is she. She's not as famous as Michael Jackson nor as infamous as Matahari but once upon a time, her case shook Malaya in 1950.
  2. To me, Nadra will always be remembered as Natrah, the girl who was brought up in Kemaman, Terengganu and married off to Mansoor Adabi in Singapore. Natrah was born as Bertha Hertogh to a Dutch Catholic family in Java, Indonesia.
  3. As fate had it, the young Natrah was left in the care of Che Aminah during the second world war. After the war, Che Aminah brought Natrah to the former's hometown of Kemaman.
  4. The rest, as they like to say it is history. The custodial court case between the natural parents and Che Aminah was a see saw and finally the court ruled in the parents' favour, separating Natrah from her foster mother and husband.
  5. Che Aminah's appeal in court was thrown out within 5 minutes and that's the main cause of riot resulting in 20 death and hundreds injured.
  6. In the late 90's, Natrah did returned to visit this region but ala, she has almost forgotten everything or refused to remember her past. The scars might be too much for her to bear.
  7. Another reference of her life can be read here. Some say she lost her sanity whilst her relatives denied that.
  8. This scribe will not elaborate more about her but urged you to read the links. Then make your own conclusion. This scribe sees it as how Muslims of today lost their fighting spirits and no better than bubles above the waves.
  9. Dnightcaller briefly mentioned Natrah in his posting datelined 14th Jan 2009.
  10. And what are my last words? "Manusia merancang tetapi yang Esa menentukan..."

Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...

Can't be too wrong when it is clearly known that man proposes but ultimately it is God that disposes. If we think of ourself as great and infallible will be the day of our downfall. Afterall, we can't even turn one grey hair white at our command and are just a pilgrim on earth.

Ahoo

U r correct there. However, what I want to raise is the difference if how Muslims today react to issues closed at heart.

In the past, Muslims joined together to defend the faith. Now? Muslims has lost that sense of "belongings" and "ukhwah".

Remember the film "Di bawah lindungan kaabah"? authored by Hamka? How, the muslims came out to prevent the "heroine" from leaving the faith? And how the "ulamas" were threatened and stopped when they were discussing on the "heroine's" husband behaviour that leads to her decision?

Maybe, someday, Mohd Idham would like to turn natrah's case into a film. Who knows...
