How to begin when everything is going south, nothing is going smoothly as planned? Malaysians has been patient and considerably muted in expressing their displeasure. That should not be taken advantage of, when Malaysians show who is the boss at GE 14, ousting the well established and well oiled BN political machinery.
Fast forward to 2020. Tun M resigns as PM7 and Abah Din managed to wriggle in as PM8. From thereon, things is not rosy for Abah Din...
Remember their faces...
Latest : An emergency Malay Ruler conference will be held on 25th October (Sunday) to discuss Abah Din's proposal to declare economic emergency...
Honestly, what do you think of Abah Din's proposal to declare economic emergency? Is it really necessary? Or is it just an attempt to avoid Nov 2 parliamentary sitting?
Ahh... before we go further, let's take a few steps back in history...
Remember PM4? Many called him Mahafiraun and such... he leads Malaysia for 2 decades. Let's not talk about his glory and his eternal bickering with Anwar Ibrahim. Other than that, he will be forever known as the PM who introduce laws to manage the rulers in 2 ways. One, a law passed and voted in parliament shall automatically take effect after 2 weeks, with or without the Rulers penned signature. Second, he introduce special courts for royalty, meaning that nobody is above the law.
During his time, his adversaries were Ku Li and Anwar Ibrahim. Despite close calls and almost losing his PMship, Tun M never invokes emergency rule to keep his post. That is fact.
Now, let's skip PM5 and go to PM 6, Najib Tun Razak. During Pak Lah's tenure, Anwar's failed in his 16th September 2008 attempt. Pak Lah is not afraid of Anwar's claim and does not include of possibly using Darurat to maintain his position.
PM 6 Najib, despite his 1 MDB fiasco, introduce another chapter of Malaysian law when he pushed through Akta Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN). The act basically empowers PM to dclare any zone as emergency without the need to consult YDPA..However, the enorcement is limited to specific areas and does not cover nationwide coverage. The nationwide coverage still falls under the purview of YDPA.
Even with such powerful arsenal at his disposal to squash streets demonstration, Najib did not invoke that during the height of demonstration where thousands took to the streets to voice displeasure against his 1MDB actions.
Now comes PM 8 Abah Din. Is there a real need to declare economic emergency? With all the MCOs and CMCOs, the rakyats did not take to the streets (yet) and they stoodfast against the aftermath of COVID 19 and try their best to ride out the economic fallout.
Abah Din's announcements of aids benefitted the public sector whilst the private sector needs to find ways to keep on surviving. Yes, many businesses close down and many more individuals will face bankers notice come November when the moratorium ends. Yet, they stand tall and face the challenges with pride.
Anwar's recent announcement that he has the numbers and was politely turn down by YDPA makes Aah Din shivers. Shivers at the thoughts of losing his PM ship. In this situation, Abah Din could not afford to disciplined his cabinet. Ministers like Takiudin Al Takiri we let scot free when everyone sees that he flaunt the law. When a student was fines RM 1000, and another jailed for breaching the SOP, he goes free. Why? For a simple reason - abah Din needs his vote in parliament to protect his supposedly 113 votes in a 222 parliament.
Ku Li, Zahid, Najib, Bung Mokhtar are just a few names that is on collision course with Abah Din. If you took their votes out, Abah Din will only have 109 votes, at most. That is short of a simple majority. What options does Abah Din have now?
His FM is not a seasoned politician. In fact, he is appointed. Being a banker, his aim is to strengthened bankers at rakyats' expense. Do you think he can present a goody budget for the rakyats? If Abah Din is confident that his budget is good, then he should not be afraid to face parliament and present budget 2021 for voting comes 2nd November.
YDPA politely turn down Abah Din's request to declare economic emergency and instead informed that he needs to consult his rulers brothers. That is diplomacy...
If there is a real need for emergency, I am sure YDPA will be well advised. The situation is more of saving abah Din,s position as PM and YDPA prefers to be above politics. Can an emergency Rulers conference be called by Wednesday 28th next week? If it does, then there is a small window for Abah Din, if the Rulers conference accepted his explaination of the need for economic emergency. Remember that parliament is set to convene on Monday 2nd November.
Will it not be better to let parliament decide? First decide whether Abah Din has the majority support as PM. If he still has the support, then let Abah Din runs the country. UMNO ceasefire declaration? With uncertainties and no goodies for UMNO, there is nothing abah Din can do to hold UMNO to their words. After all, all it needs is just a minimum of 4 UMNO lawmakers to absent themselves from the voting. Mind you that the numbers can be higher... but that is not necessary for comment here.
UMNO, PKR, Amanah, DAP has all spoken out against the economic emergency. PAS, is lost in transition whilst Sabah and Sarawak is holding their breath. What's next?
All eyes will be on the speaker. Unfortunately, thus far, he has failed to make his grade. He is a pale comparison to what he once was... Maybe this time around, he will do what is right and put the vote of no confidence for voting. Let's resolve the issue without everyone running to YDPA. YDPA has other things to do better that to listen to the squabbles of MPs trying to be PM...
If Tun M, Abah Din, Bossku Najib and abang Non is too engrossed in strategising to be PM, then let YDPA elect another person who can lead this country in a YDPA's-sponsored unity government. Maybe KJ, Fahmi or even Rafizi can take up this post, albeit temporarily until we best COVID 19.
Me? I hear Gen Y, Z and whatever that comes after tweeting and trending. They want abah Din out of the equation. Surprisingly, these new generations are talking as Malaysians. Better hear their collective voice because they are our leaders in the future...
By the way, where are other cabinet minsters? So far, not many voice support on economic emergency. Annuar Musa seems to have a different idea on the real aim of the move. It is more on politics than economics.
After almost 2 weeks of CMCO in Klang valley, there is a decrease in numbers of those infected. So, is it really necessary to have economic emergency? Your call, abah Din...
Noor Hisham has mentioned of physical and mental fatigue faced by frontliners. He even specifically mentioned PRN Sabah as one of the main contributors to the recent surge of cases. Being a public servant, Noor Hisham cannot say more and he has to check himself so as to be politically neutral. It is the likes of Abah Din, Annuar Musa who will pounce on Noor Hishams's plea to gain political mileage and achieve what they aimed to do ie to prologue parliament.
Till then...G'nite M'sia...wherever u are...
