Hmmmm...another new party?

if PCM is slick, it should be offering membership to Hee Jit Foong, Osman and Zailani, the three independent reps in Perak. To top it up, PCM can also offer membership to Ibrahim Ali, the MP from Pasir Mas. If they can do that, PCM can be transformed into a relevant party overnight just by being a party with 1 senator, 2 MP and 3 ADUN.


It must be profitable to be Malaysian politicians. If not, how can we explain the many political parties mushrooming under Malaysian skies?

Just back in May 2009, several key Hindraf members formed Makkal Sakthi party. Then in July 2009, Hindraf's Uthayakumar launches Human Rights Party. Two months later in September 2009, another party is launched and named Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM). 6 months, 3 political parties and yet GE 13 is more than 2 years away...

For the purpose of discussion, let's forget Makkal Sakthi and Human Rights party. Both of them are born from Hindraf and proved that Hindraf has lost its cause. Their leaders are leaning towards political ambitions and using the respective parties as bargaining tools to either join BN or PR. Fullstop. So, that means we are left with Parti Cinta Malaysia...

At first glance, PCM came about with the ejection of Chua Soil Lek from MCA. Does that mean PCM is formed by Chua's supporters? If they are Chua's ardent supporters, why is the party's registered address in Perai, Penang? Is there something else than meets the eye?

Before we start speculating, let's look at Malaysia's political picture. Right now, we have partyless T Murugiah ex-PPP, expelled ex-MCA's Chua Soil Lek , suspended Gerakan's Huan Cheng Guan, questionable SPDP's Tiong King Sing, going to be disciplined MIC's Subramaniam to name a few. Some of these leaders are partyless whilst a few have the ambition to expand their party to peninsular Malaysia and one will be facing his party's disciplinary committee soon. In a nutshell, these leaders are urgently looking for a shell party to remain relevant in Malaysian politics.

They could not possibly join Makkal Sakthi as it is an Indian based-party and they could not afford to stay under Human Rights party when the party's "actual leader" is in UK. They may find PKR and DAP getting too crowded and PAS is too foreign for them. As such, these leaders may take over the mantle of Parti Cinta Malaysia, if given half a chance.

Wait, before concluding their next move, let's look at the party itself. As in any commercial ventures, the branding is important and you can't afford to have a weak brand name. Does Parti Cinta Malaysia get the right vibes? It doesn't have the sparkle and the glitter of success. In fact, one blogger mentioned that it reminds him of Parti Communist Malaysia.

Me? I see PCM as a back-up to whatever these few politicians are fishing. For Chua, he may use PCM as his base should his MCA's EGM agenda failed. T Murugiah is a different story. He still has a slight chance of being re-admitted to PPP since Kayveas is having some problems with the Bar council and has lost his court case.

As for Tiong King Sing, he is having his hands full with PKFZ issue that he may need to put his ambition to spread his politics to peninsular Malaysia on a burner and keep it warm. Subramaniam? With the heat on MIC, I did not see Samy Vellu going for Subra's jugular. Not when Palanivel could not muster more than 50 % of the votes in the recently concluded MIC election. After all, Samy is still eyeing for his elusive Tunship and he don't want to be seen in the bad books of Najib.

Who's left? Right...Huan Cheng Guan. I see PCM as a political vehicle for Huan Cheng Guan for these coming 3 years where he will fight tooth and nail with Gerakan in Penang. I see PCM as a party concentrating its strength in Penang and solely registered to bash Gerakan.

Is that all? No, not yet, I am not done...if PCM is slick, it should be offering membership to Hee Jit Foong, Osman and Zailani, the three independent reps in Perak. And since we are at it, why not PCM sniffed around PR. Who knows, if they are lucky, they can bagged a few more ADUNs and MPs....and if that happens, PCM may be invited to join BN pronto...

The chances of it happening is quite remote but anything is possible. What PCM need to do is to entice those few independents to join them. If they cannot be pursuaded, then use whatever resources available to rope them in. I know that Osman and Zailani maybe interested to re-visit their "nostalgic" place in Penang, Hee has been too "lonely" without political companion for more than 6 months and Ibrahim Ali can always be counted on whenever the words "Cinta Malaysia" is on the air.

Well, it is not fair for me to say Parti Cinta Malaysia has no glitter without giving an alternative name. Why not named it Parti Citarasa Malaysia or loosely translated as "Taste of Malaysia party". I have my reasons to say that. Consider this :-

1. President T Murugiah (since he wanted to head a party so much)
2. Deputy President - Chua Soi Lek and Subramaniam (as per their previous party position)
3. Vice President Huan Cheng Guan (he was suspended from that post before)
4. Treasurer Tiong Sing King (now he can expand his wings to peninsular Malaysia)

Now where else can you find a new party with 1 senator, 2 MPs and 3 ADUNs? In fact, this new party has better representation in parliament than some other component parties in BN. To top it up, this new party will surely bring the smiles to Najib and the rest because with a stroke, all BN internal problems and bickering is solved - by PCM. As long as PCM is not the abbreviation for Parti Cepat mati, then everything will be fine :) (I am switching off my mild sarcastic mode now)

Are we going to see another new party formed in November? Why not make it a new political party for every 2 months? That way, politicians can always scout around for better political platform. By the way, when is PIS going to be registered ?

Hope that nobody come up with the idea of registering Parti Anak Malaysia (PAM). If they do, Persatuan Arkitek Malaysia (another PAM) will be suing them left and right for trademark infringement, same like McD vs McCurry....heh heh

Of royal send off and character assassination...

Pak Lah's tenure as PM are numbered, character assassination for Eli. One gets a royal "send off" , the other got her privacy invaded. Such are the life of politicians.

During the opening of the 12th session of parliment, the King touched on AAB's tenure and further hope for a smooth transition of power comes 1st April 2009. Say what you want but the writings are now expressly written on the wall. Another final blow to whatever slim hopes of AAB clinging on to the premiership after March 2009. Huge bill boards or no, AAB needs to retire.















Is there any need to spend the money to erect the huge billboard at Jalan Syed Putra when AAB is going off next month? Is there any implicit message to those plying that particular route? The tagline "Ideas appreciated, viewpoints welcomed" is redundant now. It is as redundant as the tagline "Work with me" introduced during his first years as PM.

Another week, another headline. Elizabeth Wong, Selangor state EXCO lodge a police report pertaining to photos taken without her consent and which evidently touched on her modesty, first as a human being and second as a woman.

It is not whether she was in vulnerable position or about her moral values. This is pure blatant and calculated attempt to put her unnecessarily in the spotlight, for reasons best known to the person or persons who orchasterated the release of the said photos.

Amongst the first who attached her is Khir Toyo, the aspirant UMNO youth leader who seems to be in the thick of everything, from the attempted demonstration against Karpal Singh in Penang to the pledge of support for the Sultan of selangor's statement and now to the fore calling for Eli's resignation. But Khir Toyo forgets a few things which he needs to be reminded.

First, the photos currently circulated are not taken with her consent. Second, if Khir is trying to potray that all politicians must be morally squeeky clean, he must first clean his own house. He should be demanding for his party's top leadership, either current or future, to resign because of the PD public secret. Go for it first, Khir and I believe the whole nation will support you.

It is a matter of principle that we must respect people's privacy. It is traumatise enough for Eli to have her modesty invaded, but to capitalise on that issue is purely disgusting. Khir Toyo, and for that matter, all who now acts as goody two shoes, should first go self evaluate themselves before issuing more damaging statements - are you much better morally? You may not have your photographs taken in compromising positisions but can you swear that you have never been involved or participated in immoral activities? Clubbing perhaps?

Shouldn't politics be confined to governance? Think and be true to oneself...

Eli's offer to resign from both her EXCO post and state seats reflects her dedication to her constituents. And what PR did in advising her to go on leave whilst seeking HRH Selangor's royal guidance is highly commended. It shows that PR does not pre-judge Eli and at the same time seek HRH's views as her EXCO seat is up to the discretion of HRH meaning that HRH has a strong and deciding say regarding to her EXCO seat. If and when HRH so decided that she should vacate her EXCO eat then only she can offer to quit her Bukit Lanjang state seat. That, my friends, is politics 101.

CNY : Of Ox, celebration, ecllipse and ...

The picture of Najib , Ong Tee Keat, Koh Tsu Koon and Samy Vellu toasting yee sang for a prosperous new year may not be as rosy as it looks. Barely 24 hours before, on the eve of CNY, Datuk Nasarudin Hashim, the elected DUN for Bota Perak, quits BN to crossover to PKR sending shockwaves in UMNO circles of Perak.

Anwar Ibrahim claims Datuk Nasarudin's crossover is the beginning of the mass exodus of BN's elected reps to Pakatan Rakyat whilst Najib, on the other hand, boldly pronounced that there will be no more defection to Pakatan Rakyat. It seems that the year of the Ox starts favourably for Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat.

In restropect, on CNY eve, this scribe decided to lend a supporting hand to the anti-ISA candlelight vigil held at MBPJ's compounds. This, is in anticipation of the lower turnout due to the CNY annual dinner. On arrival, this scribe first noticed a few stalls selling the normal Pakatan Rakyat's tapes, CDs', stickers, books etc. On the steps were Zorro, Haris scores of other people with candles on their hands. There were also Ahli Muda Keadilan (AMK) members and the public linggering at the steps, where later this scribe noticed another function, Malam Prihatin Palestine (MPP), was also held at the same venue at almost the same time. Since MPP was SElangor State function, the police presence were more of accomodating to the function ie no FRUs' presence were detected. How wonderful it will be if this can scenery can spillover to the coming weeks, what say u oh son of the Lion of UMNO? After all, u have much to do housecleaning in ur own UMNO...

Before the golden Ox leaves its first day on the Chinese lunar year, it was also recorded that the partial eclippse of the sun occured around 4.30 pm in Peninsular Malaysia. Will BN going to be ecllipsed as well ? Recent records have shown that BN is backpedalling and has been reduced to a reactive political machine and has lost its glamour and weight in determining the country's future. Najib will be having a tough time from March onwards if he ever succeded Pak Lah...unless he can convincely shed his own baggage, beginning with his ongoing sleeping partner...

Having said that, the Police has warned the public in regards to A. Kugan's funeral. But then again, the Police have thus far failed to explain satisfactorily on his death whilst under Police custody. Even the politicians are drawn into this unexplainable and unnecessary death.

P36 : Of settling dust, self assessment and...

The announcement for P 36 Kuala Terengganu parlimentary seat by election came at 9.15 pm on 17th January 2009. YB Wahid Endut was proclaimed the victor with a majority of 2,631 over his nearest rival, Datuk Wan Farid Wan Salleh of BN.

The day started with clear advantage to PAS when their supporters control most of the pondok panas. The mood is there and continue until 5.00 pm when the polling station closed.

The rest, as they say it, is history.

MSM and bloggers offer their analytical reasons for BN loss. Big Dog, self declared Ronin (pade doh), nut graph, malaysia today to mention a few. Even this scribe offers his unsolicited views regarding the losing candidate and BN's election machinery which was later posted by Ronin.

Regarding victory night Zorro wrote "Hey, NIGHTCALLER, it was great of you to come meet me on Victory Night and allowed me to hug you. It was sad you couldn't stay even for a cup of coffee. I know you wanted to render assistance to the 100 of your comrades that were arrested.

Good night, nightcaller, wherever you are."

It is my duty to help and assist those in need and I cannot stand looking my brethen randomly whipped by police sticks when a simple reminder by the Authority is sufficient to get the victory marchers to stop. And as I have numerously mentioned, I will remain apolitical in my views. But, it is nice to be acknowledge, once in a while...:)

Regardless of what is said and highlighted, the dust has settled and it is time to "muhasabah" (self assessment) of where we are and our destination.

On PR, this is not the time to gloat on the victory. Instead PR shall follow the tone of TG Nik Aziz who is gracious in his comments on PAS victory. A win in P36 is a wake up call for BN to wake up. The wake up calls of March 2008 and later in Permatang Pauh was put on snooze mood by BN and it is time for BN to come face to face with reality that they have lost the edge and advantage held for the past 50 years.

PR must realise that there are still differences that needs patching as future endevours will see PR facing the awakened BN. The one thing that PR should avoid is to mirror what BN has done. The poll volunteers should instead follow the PAS way with the highly regarded Pasukan Amal, which control the crowd. PR (especially PKR) should avoid confrontational approach adapted by Pemuda UMNO.

PR was lucky that TG Hadi Awang chose Wahid Endut over Mustaffa Ali and Wan Mutallib. If TG was to chose either Mustafa Ali or Wan Mutallib, the P36 by election may see a different result. This scribe will not delve into the why's since this is already a non-issue with Wahib Endut's victory.

However, PAS needs to look deeply into its own self and redefine its direction. Will PAS sacrifice its ambition to implement islamic laws in return with co-existence with both DAP and PKR? What will be the role of TG Nik Aziz, TG Hadi Awang, Nashruddin, Hussan Musa,Mohd Sabu, Mustaffa Ali and the Dewan Ulama in PR. History has not been kind to PAS Terengganu when they rule the state from 1999 to 2004. PAS still has 3 years to set the tone for 13th GE. PAS needs to go beyond the silo mentality and has vast potential in terms of their second and third echelon of leaders.

BN, on the other hand, shall need to do serious soul cleansing. Muhyiddin Yassin was partially correct when he says that UMNO needs to regain the "wow" factor. To do that, UMNO must first do a thorough house cleaning, ridding all the deadwoods and driftwoods come March 2009 UMNO General assembly. Those who are known to be corrupted (although not proven in court) shall make way for the others. UMNO leaders must ask themselves , are they ready to go for serious make overs?

UMNO must make way for young, idealistic members who wish to contribute to the party's strength. UMNO must ensure that those who are interested to contribute to the party shalll not be blocked from doing so. The tie for apple polishing, warlords, sponsorship is now over.

To stay relevant, UMNO needs rebranding. Excess baggage needs to make way for those who are clean. UMNO may need to rope in independent analyst and experts as well as man on the streets to itemise what is wrong with the present UMNO. UMNO has to discard it's "Kow tow to me, I am the boss" sydrome.

UMNO needs to go back to basics and re-doctrinetheir members that being an UMNO member is to serve the nation. And UMNO needs to remind themselves that all the hanger on that is crowding them now will be gone the moment UMNO lost its power. When that happens, UMNO may end being the barber...

If UMNO loves Islam and the nation, UMNO must change now...
